You have just missed his television announcement that he will stay on for a maximum of three months. He will stay now for stability, but wants somebody fresh to run thr exit procedure.

Britain has voted to leave the European Union, with the Leave campaign securing around 51.8 per cent of the vote.

David Cameron, who will address the nation shortly, is now facing calls to resign as Prime Minister.

While England voted overwhelmingly for Brexit, Scotland and Northern Ireland backed Remain. Statements are expected to be made by Sinn Fein and the SNP later today calling for a breakaway from the Union. London backed Remain but the turnout was lower than expected because of bad weather.

The headline from the Telegraph story says David Cameron "to resign" but the story makes no mention of it. Can anyone confirm it?

Britain leaving the EU after 40+ years.

And the Prime Minister announcing his resignation.

This day will be one to jot down in the history books.

Jaw officially on the floor !

Good riddance. What a horrible Leader. Shame to suffer under him these past 6 years.

Hopefully Osborne loses his position too.

...That will only hurt the most economically at risk: Pensioners, working poor, etc. The "rich" will take a hit and recover over time.

The "Leave" vote was predominately older English people. Scotland and Northern Ireland voted overwhelmingly to stay. The Scots hardly consider this a "victory", they see it as another English slap in the face. The entire country of Scotland in every county, voted to stay and it didn't matter.

The Leave campaign has instantly thrown the entire UK into recession and it is the working man and the retired OAP that will be hurt the worst.

People playing with money effects the cost of actual products, it's not the fault of the British that stock markets are fickle and ran by greed. N Ireland will always have the loyalist faction and quite honestly it's too soon to call on anything in terms of our union. Scotland almost left before and I always agreed Scotland needs a bigger voice in parliament.

The good news is we are independant, we are a large and established economy. We can control our economy.

Meh, the UK has a few resources not being exploited and an educated population, people wanting to invest in business not profit will ALWAYS enjoy the prospect of investing in business within the UK.

Young vote to "Remain", Old vote to "Leave"

The whole divisive mess and resulting economic carnage will take a long time to recover from. This is only the beginning, it is not the resolution of anything. Ironically it is the working man and the senior on a pension that voted to Leave that will be hurt the most by their decision.
