I've never witnessed anything like this.

It's the first vote that has really mattered in my 47 years on this Earth.

Scotland : 70,038 Leave, 103,501 Remain
Northern Ireland : 78,821 Leave, 100,321 Remain

Okay, so if England beats out the other two can Scotland or Ireland take a second vote to stay in the EU?

No they can't. They could vote to leave the UK and then renegotiate with Europe.

The Scottish Nationalists, at least, are threatening to have another go at an Independence referendum if that happens.

I hope to wake up a free man.

But I'll settle for my side being gracious in defeat.

I hope this close run thing doesn't tear this country apart.

50.2% for Leave?

Is this figure up to date?

More or less. The large areas such as Merseyside, Lancashire, greater Manchester, Birmingham and the London regions will count as well and will have a large effect.

That is the danger - the way the vote is going it would appear that Scotland may hold England hostage. That is not going to sit well.

This vote is for the whole of the U.K to leave the E.U. If the U.K vote to leave as a whole then the process begins to remove the U.K from the EU.

If Scotland vote to remain then the Scottish National Party will likely call for a 2nd Scottish Independence referendum to make Scotland it's own country, with the idea for us to a negotiate a continuation within the E.U as an independent country.

Northern Ireland and Wales might follow up with their own referendums but that would be up to the people of those countries to decide.

Merthyr voted out....Anyone who has a job there works for a European company...I'm amazed by that.

And Basildon is out too. just wow.

I'm starting to feel the shackles loosening.

I was treated so well in Scotland and treasure the memory of a wedding I attended in Kirkaldy. (I always ask Scots I meet if they've been to Kirkaldy. It usually gets a smile.) The Scots are generous and hospitable, not cheap.

Maggie always swore by Essex Man as an election winner.

With the stay vote in the remain in the UK vote in Scotland having been so close I think they would have a right to vote on choosing Europe over the UK.

Thank you for the explanation. Makes sense.

I love how the ballots were actually cast.

A simple slip of paper.

That would NEVER happen in the States.

It would be very difficult.

We had a vote for independence 20 months ago that was very close but there is a lot of political lobbying that goes on behind the scenes to get a referendum on independence.

I would say that the the UK would be very reluctant to allow Scotland to have a second referendum.

They can't do it on their own authority, but they can pile on a great deal of political pressure to make it happen.

All they are banging on about on Sky is "White working classes" said with a bit of a sneer as if they really want to say "Well, they are all racists".

Pah.
