Would the weight be important also?

Will a magnet stick to it?

Does it weigh more or less than a common stone of similar size?

That blue stuff on it looks strange, is there a mineral that turns blue when heated?

Maybe, if it is a piece space junk, its original color was that blue and certain places on the surface were pitted due to the heat of entry whereas the parts that are still blue were not.

Neat find, given its small size, its good that you saw it drop, otherwise it may have been overlooked!

Thats most likely from the green portions of the rock. Which is iron

It could help. But given the size, most likely not in this case. Unless it was gold it probably weighs close to the same as the penny in the picture

No it doesn't stick it just wobbles. Maybe I need a stronger magnet.

I compared with another rock of similar size and they both felt like they weighed the same.

How beautiful! I would have that thing wrapped in gold wire, or drilled, and have it around my neck or wrist so fast it would make your head swim!

I LOVE IT! You could auction it off here, maybe? I'll bid on it.

Well i just shown this to my geologist. I had him look at the picture before telling him any story to it.

He said it reminds him of a lapis lanuzi but its to perfect of a shape. He said it looks like its been worked.

Then he immediately said its a micro meteorite.
So i told him that it fell from the sky and he said hes seen one similar in Mongolia.
The pock marks are from the heat of entry.

No Problem! Congrats on the amazing find!

The cosmos blessed you twice. Once by leaving it for you to find, and twice by not having it hit ya in the head on the way down lol.

First thing I thought was lapis lazuli because of the gold looking flecks. Would look lovely polished up as a necklace

You have money in hand. If that is in fact a meteorite. Especially since you saw it hit the earth.
geology.com... will help you determine value.

S&f way too cool man, congrats on being in the right place at the right time. You may have yourself a family heirloom and a cool story to go along with it. Have to admit I'm pretty envious right now.

You should count your lucky stars - imagine if you happen to jump up and go for a walk just before it landed, you could have been hit by it.

Anyway, after reading the thread, it sure does appear to be a micro-meteorite and in saying that, you're sitting on a potential little fortune - in fact as others have eluded to it would make a nice piece of jewelry too.

I wish I had a mini meteor, I'm jealous.
