■ A total of 13 employees were killed; an increase of three from the previous year. The
average number of employee deaths over the previous 5 years was 12; the range
being between 10 and 13.
■ Nineteen (19) self-employed people died during the year; 2 more than the previous
year. The average over the previous 5 years was 22; ranging between 17 and 25.

They all need police bodyguards. And free whiskey.

Being a farmer is dangerous. You have to do it or other people starve.

It's not like being a politician or something. We can live without them.

We can't live without farmers.

Yes, being a farmer is hazardous.

Long hours, pressure, taking short-cuts, stress and all that, all add up to a dangerous mix when you are dealing with equipment and animals, often alone.

Been there, seen it, and done it - only for three years of my life. However, there is a plus, and that's working in farming can be amazingly rewarding. Rose tinted glasses aside, I often wished I had stayed working field-side because there's more to life than sitting behind a desk.

Clearly, not very rewarding when you get trampled by cattle, fall in the silage pit, or you get your hand caught in a conveyor. Even worse when there's no one around to help.

Far m work is South Africa's 'most dangerous occupation'

"We don't want to racialise it," he said. "All we are saying is that the vast majority of murder victims in the country are farmers. If we analyse the victims, the majority are white farmers."

Like you said, we can't live without farmers.
What is it the UK is doing for South African
refugees under attack because of race again?
oh well. Guess i'll just stay here and wait
for the inevitable or starve.

A friend got trampled by a cow while he was helping a farmer whose land he was camped on. He got to his feet and the farmer asked if he was OK. He was in agony and unable to talk, but he was a poker faced individual whose expressions didn't give away how he was feeling. The farmer followed the cattle and left him. He staggered back to his camp and lay down expecting to die. By morning he realised he was going to survive. A couple of days later he asked the farmer, "Why did you leave me?" The farmer said, "When you didn't say anything I thought you were alright".

A farmer my mother worked with had an embarrassing story about walking back to the farm naked. The combine jammed. He went round to the front to free it. It started up and caught his clothing. He desperately held himself away from it while it ripped his clothes to shreds and covered him in scratches.

It's the no one around to help bit that makes farming more dangerous than being a politician. Tragic that he wasn't able to stop the murder, but at least there was a hero ex-miner ready to rush to Jo Cox's aid. So often no one there for the farmer, and possibly not expected back at the farmhouse for hours.

We need food.Being a farmer is one of the most important job in the world in my book , yet they get very little respect from most people and even made fun of by some as dirt kickers and such. If you look back at US history and how important Thomas Jefferson considered farming you would think farmers would deserve much more respect. I guess the corporate farming has changed most of the respect local family farmers used to get. I just know farmers are very important to me and have my utmost respect.

Cattle can be real bitches. I got run over by some sheep, sounds funny, but I was sh1t scared at the time. Really. People think farm animals are warm and fluffy, but they are not. I have also seen a dog being kicked by a horse. It should have been on a lead and under control. Shut the dog up though and taught the owner a lesson that horses are not warm and fluffy either!

Townies.

Here was i thinking we needed politicians to regulate and tax the farmers to be safer so they do not have as many accidents....

Have you any idea how many farmers die of confusion while trying to fill in government forms?
