Hrmm.the op images dont show stitching. Stitching either has a distinct line between stiches or a "subtle" blending

The illumination emanates from a distinct side of whatever.. I say bow.

I dont see stitching artifacts..

If you're talking about the images in the OP (or when actually viewing the location on Google Earth), I have no idea what you are talking about.

It is quite definitely Sail Rock.

No doubt Sail Rock, but the illumination from there is what is intriguing me.

That giga pixel link is pretty cool. My daughter would be in that crowd. She was caught up in those riots. Can't find her though. Too many people!

Back on topic. No idea was the google earth thing is. Quite strange. Looks like an illuminated cave

Nope, that's not Sail Rock. The information on your linked page states that Sail Rock is 35 km SW of Deception Island. The anomaly that is the subject of this thread is located only 12.5 km SW of Deception Island. But there is another dark splotch beyond the anomaly, further SW that does fall at 35 km, which could be Sail Rock.

I'm not saying this is definitely Sail Rock at 35 km SW of Deception, but it gives you an idea of the difference in distance.

I posted the source of the image. Apparently that source has the distance wrong.

Sail Rock is an insular rock, 30 m high, lying 7 nautical miles (13 km) southwest of Deception Island, in the South Shetland Islands. This name, which dates back to at least 1822, was probably given by sealers.

Ok then. I was going by the info on the scielo.cl... link where it stated,

"4.1. Sail Rock
Very limited information is available on Sail Rock, a small volcano located some 35 km southwest of Deception Island. It rises about 30 m above sea level and features a sail-like shape (hence its name). The stack marks the top of a volcano the rest of which is submerged below sea level...."

I should have looked closer at each of the items you posted. Thanks for clearing that up and solving the mystery!

I see two distinct bright areas.

The one on the left is maybe .35 gigawatts...

Regardless, has the rock been outfitted with lights?

You can determine power output by looking at a Google Earth image?
Awesome.

Have you no sense of humor?
The 1.21 gigawatts was a reference to "Back to the future" .. Or the power of thoflightning bolt...

The picture above shows two bright spots. The north side is greatly brighter than the south.. Why

North is east on the computer screen right?

And, in the southern hemisphere, where is the Sun?

If the question is to cajole an understanding to why an illuminated perimeter on both sides of the bright spots on the island are apparent ..

I dont get it

I dont see natural lighting casting such directed lighting effects.

So far the only thing i can think of is tourista. It seems tourists are an issue to the preservation of the rock and i have to assume a huge bonfire on both sidea or..
