I genuinely do, as it happens.

Everything that is wrong with my country, is down to privatisation of what should always have been national institutions, from the railways and bus services, to the NHS and our energy infrastructure. I am also one of those who would like to reanimate Margret Thatcher, just so that I could injure her badly, and leave her in a hospital corridor for eight hours with no food or water, so she could see the benefits of running hospitals for profit...the miserable cow.

I don't want you to look ignorant.

OH PLEASE! I cannot stand it when idiots use this stance.

There is not a significant rise in the deaths of fist / feet / knives / cars / slow cookers / ovens / tree branch fallings, etc.

There have been 16 MASSACRES in the past 8 yrs and this trend is rising significantly!!!

We need to do something about it. Next massacre could be in YOUR city, open your eyes!

Crazy people have access to guns, we MUST restrict this!!!!

If you cannot agree on this then sorry, I cannot help the ignorant and thick skulled. Just don't twist murder weapons to try and prove a useless point...

OMG!

I agree, crazy people shouldn't have guns, crazy is crazy, doesn't matter if they are high functioning crazy. So control freaks (cops), sociopaths, narcissists, psychopaths (bankers an politicians), bigots, racists, neocons, neonazis, feminazis, tree huggers, egomaniac, any militant person or group, liberals/progressive liberals (too far left), bible thumpers or any religious fanatic and Republicans (too far right) don't get guns lol.

It's going to be an awful small gun market with just me and a few dozen others on ATS ;-)

Cheers - Dave

g·no·rance
ˈiɡnərəns/
noun
noun: ignorance

lack of knowledge or information.
"he acted in ignorance of basic procedures"
synonyms: incomprehension of, unawareness of, unconsciousness of, unfamiliarity with, inexperience with, lack of knowledge about, lack of information about; informalcluelessness about
"a statement that shows a complete ignorance of the regulations"
lack of knowledge, lack of education, unenlightenment, illiteracy;
lack of intelligence, stupidity, foolishness, idiocy
"both ignorance and poverty contribute to the growing problem of forced child labor"

We are encouraging you to do a small bit of research and discover some facts to fill in the lack of knowledge which you appear to possess.

I care a great deal that people were slaughtered at a time in which they were enjoying the company of friends and the promise of an uplifting shared experience.

A brutish, ignorant thug committed an abominable atrocity. He just so happened to use firearms to have done so. The manner and intent of his actions are what need to be focused upon, not the tools with which he accomplished his attack.

Get it right.

You are all future mass murderers. Your crime is pre-crime.

Philip K. Dick predicted everything, apparently.

I would really like for you to explain how "you are all future mass murders".
Please explain in a way that I can understand what you mean otherwise I
will use my own interpretation and imagination.

Gun owners have been tried, convicted in the kangaroo courts of public opinion. Apparently we are all 'mass murders'.

That's what threaded replies are for.

Why are you comparing bare handed and knives to a type of gun? Why not compare bare handed and knives to just guns in general? Oh wait that would blow your narrative out of the water wouldn't it?

This whole thread is abusing statistical analysis to try to make it look like rifles are less harmful than knives and fists then use that evidence to argue that guns are less harmful than knives or fists. Propaganda detected...

I think you missed another point. They (they being Obama) are talking about banning assault rifles. Not fists, not glock pistols, not dirty socks, assault rifles. Never mind they aren't smart enough to understand that term. I think you need to pay attention a bit better.

I'm pretty sure they are talking about restrictions not bans.

I'm pretty sure you might want to look into this a bit more.

He called for reinstating the assault weapons ban and further restrictions.

I think you want to look up the definition of "guns" and what it means to ban all of them. Also I suggest you read up on the definition of restrictions. I went ahead and bolded that word from your post too. I doubt you'll do either of them and just attack me with some hyperbole though.

Sorry about the name calling. I just get very annoyed with ignorant people who twist facts and don't care about anything unless it happens to themselves.

So removing all the "dangerous" guns from the US population AND ensuring that criminals aren't able to get them, is easy to do?

Could you please offer a rough outline on how that might work? Thanks in advance.

well, since we want to make decisions that go against American tradition, law and the Constitution in a knee jerk fashion on anecdotal evidence. I would like to throw in there, that it sure does appear that there has been a huge uptick in the frequency of these mass murder incidents since Obama has taken office. It sure does seem that the vast majority of these animals have been registered democrats. Casual coincidence or observable pattern?

Sorry about the name calling. I just get very annoyed with ignorant people who twist facts and don't care about anything unless it happens to themselves.

You clearly implied I am someone, "who just doesn't care." And then further add that you "get very annoyed with ignorant people who twist facts and don't care about anything unless it happens to themselves." So by inference, yes, you certainly did imply that I, personally, am ignorant.

Here is something that might surprise you.

I know I am ignorant to a great many things. However, I also know that the way to remedy that is to ask questions, read the primary source material (if available) about a topic, and to lean upon the knowledge of others with first hand experience. In that way the lack of knowledge is filled and ignorance is denied.

I, myself personally, could do more damage with hands and feet than I could with a rifle due to training in the former and lack of practice with the latter.

If you look at the raw stats for rifle-related deaths (you know, the topic of the thread) the numbers are clearly evident.

It saddens me tremendously that young people, through no fault of their own, no no longer have a future and that those to whom they were friends now have huge loss within their lives. We have a poster here on these boards who lost someone they knew, so you have that connection as well.

Being upset at the happening is one thing. But you have to be able to look at it dispassionately if you are to understand the core causes and not be manipulated by groups who want you looking at one thing when something else is sneaking up on you; and the sneakers are being helped by the ones leading you around by the nose through your fears of the scary looking gun.

So, who decides who can have guns and who gets blacklisted?

Do the liberals want to start with banning Muslims from owning guns?

Or how about everyone that is on anti-depressants?

Or just conservatives and christians?

Or sexually confused abusers with links to the CIA? (well that might make sense...)

Can we ban people from owning guns if they visit Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Syria...?

Where do we start? Who decides who gets on what list? Or should only the government be allowed to have guns because governments never massacre people? (forget Mao, Stalin, a bunch of South American dictators...)

Or is it just that bad AR15 that we ban? I'm sure there's no way to kill people with a pistol. (might want to check statistics)

And what about Mexico? They never import anything illegal to the US do they?

It's a mind**** of a situation, but really, for the neo-liberals, try answering the above questions so you realize the dilemma as it actually exists. I am all for less death and destruction.

It boggles my mind that people get so caught up in "guns=bad/evil" and focus solely upon that and ignore all other aspects of any given situation.

And on top of that, they don't see that the politicos then use such fervor by purposefully honing in on the tool used to commit these attacks whereas the motive and the environment in which such ideas were fostered are relegated to footnotes if those cannot be spun, if even mentioned in the majority of the discussions.

Let me repeat:

Motive and the environment in which such ideas are fostered.

That is where the main thrust of mitigating efforts should be made.

Due to my laziness and 4 shots of vodka I assume people already enlightened you to your ignorance. So far these "terrorists" in the USA have been completely stupid and we are lucky for it. We are lucky all they have used is scary semi-auto guns. Just FYI a trip to Home Depot and $100 and the guy from Orlando could have wiped out the entire building and everyone in it (320ish people). Be very hopeful these "terrorists" don't recruit a chemist. Guns are not even a drop in the bucket of what they can do if they get organized in the USA. Just think Mall of America and 3-4 suicide vest wearing people or a nascar/baseball/football stadium with 100,000 people all crammed into a small area. Seriously we are lucky it has only been gun violence.

But....but....guns! Guns are bad, don't you know? And those evil bullets, why, they just fly everywhere!! /sarcasm

The only reason they want to ban guns is the same reason we have the right to carry them. The Declaration of Independence sums it up nicely.
