Speaking of bans I am pretty sure that intentionally hiding your username by colour is against terms and conditions.

Just a heads up like.

OP?

You could always just ask those to stop or to stay on topic.

If they ask me to change it, I'll change it. You can roll over where the name would be to see it. It's not like I've hacked my way into anonymity or something.

I changed it to a blank avatar in protest, simply because the repeating image down the side of posts is annoying.

I know but it's really rather annoying having to have to do that to be honest.

A bit like having to scroll through off topic chat in a thread

If your posting history resembled mine you would have juuuust a few more posts than you have now.

Lol. Exactly. I try to make sure my posts are relevant before hitting "reply".

Ok, I'll change it. Just for you.

But before we risk running the thread into idle chit-chat, you should message me any particular suggestions you may have.

It annoys me as I like to know who is saying what and why, more so on a tablet or laptop with a touchpad.

this thread will get shut down because of petulant babies like you who cannot handle free discourse

man the fook up

you make open ended slurs against ` them ` and think its ok to tack such insults on to the end of your whinning

you are so poorly trained that a illiterate goat shagger from outer mongolia who has never seen a computer before would do a better job

I sense that even if the thread survives your comment may not.

That's because some of us are obviously paid for it. Duh!

I never said I wasn't guilty of going off-topic.

Actually, you said earlier you could count it on one had. That thread had 4 out of 8 posts alone.

You just do it at a rate fantastically higher than I do.

Do I? Then report it!

And, of course, I get moderated far more than you do.

Just gonna go out on a limb here and say it is because you are off topic.

Or it could be a giant Masonic conspiracy.

It's almost always the same people...

Long time members going back and forth making cheesy jokes that have nothing to do with the thread, and they get tons of stars...leaves me perplexed at times.

What bothers me even more is that these #s actually think they're funny.

Edit:

I wish they would just start their own "Off Topic Cheezy Jokes Thread"

But no, it's most likely intentional so I don't see an end to it any time soon.

Usually with long time members, they get to know other long time members and there may even be inside jokes. Plus, they've seen newbies come and go without actually making any meaningful threads (coincidentally, it seems that when school is out there is an influx of new members), so if the thread isn't going in the direction that the author wants it to, it is up to them to keep it on track, or, if it really bothers someone so much, there is an "alert" button and you can notify the mods that there is topic drift.

My $.02

May I remind you that this thread is not about "off-topic posts", as such.

It is about derailing the thread into personal chit-chat. That is what I've rarely done, in contrast with you.

I am of two minds about this.

Ordinarily, I'd agree, but given this election season and all the political craziness and rancor going on. There are times when it's nice to see the banter to remind us that we don't actually want to kill each other over two people who are completely unrelated to any of us here ... unless some of you are hiding some very big secrets from the rest of us.

Humor does keep things from getting any nastier than than they have to and it provides a steam valve for the tension.

I suspect that's why some of it has been allowed to continue on as long as it has in some places to partially derail a few of the threads.
