Commentary: How NATO really provoked Putin

Poland is about to host the largest multinational military exercises on its territory in more than a decade. The “Anakonda-16” exercises, involving 31,000 troops from more than 20 countries, are intended to showcase the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s unity and speed one month before the alliance’s summit in Warsaw. The U.S. Army will play a key role, with a mechanized regiment based in Germany simulating a mission to rescue the Baltic states from a Russian attack.

The exercises come just weeks after the United States inaugurated the first of two controversial missile-defense installations in Eastern Europe. Next year, the Pentagon plans to quadruple military spending in Europe to $3.4 billion and begin rotating an armored brigade through Eastern Europe — in addition to extra NATO forces to be deployed to Poland and the Baltics.

The Kremlin’s response to Anakonda-16 is predictable. Russian President Vladimir Putin has already threatened Romania for participating in the U.S. missile shield. The large-scale maneuvers will only fuel the Kremlin narrative that Russia is being encircled by hostile forces. European peaceniks, too, won’t have to look far for new evidence of American war-mongering.

History has taught not to ignore Poland. To wit, the Hitler-Stalin pact to split Poland amongst the two.

Yep, NATO is now provoking Putin in Poland...what's next Germany 'provoking' Putin? Then perhaps France?

Yawn....

i could see that way too i think it means the same that it just keeps happening whether or not were aware of it, so i guess even if we learn from the history its still going to happen again in some shape and form we will identify with past wars ?

Mostly we just ignore history, like this exercise has been going on since 2006. And the fact that the Russia used to join NATO exercises including one in the US itself. Or that Russia had no problem with NATO expansion as it was a NATO PfP member, had the Russian NATO council and was let into the G7. And that the main reason Russia did not join NATO was that it wanted to more power in the alliance instead of how it has always been every nation with one vote. Russia wanted more what it had in the Warsaw Pact, the biggest power also had all the political power. Russia own actions have lead to every thing it complains about now and it expects people to just forget the role it played in NATO expansion almost becoming a part of it.

How much did Washington pay the utterly stupid and corrupt Romanian and polish governments to put their populations in the nuclear cross hairs?

Obama is really putting the pressure on, what a shame some people can read him like a kiddy's little book.

The effort of trying to get people to fall back into a cold war with Russia is pathetic because many people actually see Putin as a better politician than any we have in the West.

Europe is playing stupid as usual because Russia, with all its natural resources, space programme etc etc is the better partner for Europe not only because of the islamic threat which it also fights but because of the trade opportunities and natural gas not to mention something very useful.

We have played stupid games with Russia instead of building a good relationship with that country for far too long. Russia would make a better ally than obviously Saudi and some of those duplicitous countries the West toadies up to.

Why is this anti Americian? just because they tell the world of the actions taken, or will be taken by the US?

If publicing what Jeffersons111Ghost has done is un Americian no wonder the world is in such peril and no wonder the media is happy to be a tool of the US govt.

As I see it Jeffersons111Ghost has an obligation to tell everyone about this event because we are all stake holders in global peace issues, in addition to being potential victims of every act of madness and savagery the US engages in because it seems to think they have right to rule the world.

Why is it that Americans seem to believe that their own salvation lies in conquering the rest of the world?

Why is it that Americans doubt their own capacity to live in peace with other countries?

Find an actual credible source that isn't the kremlin mouthpiece and you might have something, but since you used RT for a source you have nothing but propaganda.

Commentary: How NATO really provoked Putin

You do understand that Russia has a permanent envoy to NATO that knows what NATO is doing and none of this is not known to them?

Had it not been for Crimea they would still be cooperating with each other, but good old Vlad had to make the problems we see now because he has a problem with many of those countries that left the old Soviet Union and wants them back.

Funny thing is that NATO isn't looking for those countries to join...those countries are looking to join NATO.

And being they are sovereign nations...Putin has no say as to what they can do to guarantee their safety, but for some reason he feels he does.

That is true as long as you don't border Russia...as Putin feels he can tell other countries who they can and cannot have defensive alliances with...and because of that we see more countries looking to NATO for their defensive capabilities.
