2008 TC3 trail in the sky: apod.nasa.gov...

These trails are blown by winds at altitudes up to 100 kilometers and can take on progressively twisted worm-like shapes.

Large meteor possibly hits in Arizona

Is this it?

Isn't that meteor crater?
I am in Scotland and it looks like it to me.
Anyone got images of where it landed? if it landed?

Love the difference between Russians and Yanks. The incredible meteorite flies over Chelyabinsk and none of the drivers who witness is first hand utter a single word in their videos. No big deal eh? (of course, i know it was)

One possibly flies over Arizona and before we have confirmation, we already have people taking about it making the ground shake, hitting the gerund, the smell etc...

Don't take my comment as criticism, its just a funny how different nationalities react

Russians are VERY relaxed people.
Americans (SOME) tend to make mountains out of mole hills.
Peace

That's Winslow crater. Created a long time ago in Arizona, north and east of Sedona Arizona.

Interesting that when I went to Walmart to buy a new futon couch. The song on the radio was "Witchy Woman" And then a police siren like sound went off. Which was interesting because the woman I asked out named Taylor she was training to be a police officer. And the Eagles had a line in another song that says something about "Winslow Arizona".

Have to look up what song that Winlow comment was, but it was not from the song "Witchy Woman". But it was the same band. The Eagles.

Well, I'm a-standin' on a corner in Winslow, Arizona
Such a fine sight to see
It's a girl, my Lord, in a flat-bed Ford
Slowin' down to take a look at me
Come on, baby, don't say maybe
I gotta know if your sweet love is gonna save me
We may lose and we may win, though we will never be here again
So open up I'm climbin' in, so take it easy

The song was Take it easy, by Osama Bin Laden. I mean the Eagles. I don't think Bin Laden knew how to take it easy.

I live in ElMirage, just out side of Phoenix. I can confirm this is what was seen.. to me looking left to right looks like a humanoid shape, next to a fist flipping the bird. the picture of the "comet trail" in the first to pages.

Thanks....I looked at the FakesBook Page responses...

the video of a low-on-the-horizon air burst was mildly exciting...

the meteor did not strike Earth so that makes the Space Rock a 'Bolide'
it seems a comet/asteroid even meteor that explodes in the air is termed a BOLIDE
but the defining sites tell of 'bolide' impacts...is this a contradiction ???

My thoughts exactly about the valuable space debris...we are going to Sedona, AZ in 2 weeks and we usually stop in Tuscon first.

The person in the American Meteor video on Facebook said it landed (hit) just North of Tuscon. Do people rush out and start looking for the pieces of debris? Or is it just a few nuts like me that think that may be a fun thing to do?

You never know, we might have an "Antique's Roadshow" moment involving space rocks. I will take pics if we find anything.

In all fairness, this meteor travelled way too fast for a man-made debris. Man-made objects travel quite slow across the sky. See the numerous satellite/rocket stage/Columbia reeentry videos on Youtube to see what I mean.

You know the other interesting coicidence.

The timing of this metoer in relation to my posts on page 9 of this thread.

www.abovetopsecret.com...

Especially since the picture I took in my avatar was in Arizona. And the trajectory of the meteor points to the place where I took the picture with the desert cactuses.

www.amsmeteors.org...

The green dot marks start, red marks direction the meteor was headed along with the blue arrow.

It gets worse.

It not only draws a line to where I took the picture of my avatar. It draws a line on the opposite northern end to where I live now. It goes right over my neighborhood.

It doesn't stop there. I just noticed now that MissMissie173.

173 is the course in degrees of the flight path of the meteor.

As always, Phil Plait gives a good lowdown of the event: www.slate.com...

There were enough witnesses and good data from the event that scientists were able to backtrack its path into space, and even get an orbit for it! It was on an elliptical path, tilted to the plane of the planets, going out past Mars, and just to Earth’s orbit.

And lots more calculations and estimates in that article.

I love the video he mentions, definitely have a look full-screen and in HD: www.youtube.com...
