Thankyou for reading. I'm not in the best mood, and needed a creative outlet. Perhaps this will become my new hobby.

He sat motionless as the graceful creature inched closer. The doe was surely aware of his presence, but did not sense a threat. Her instincts served her true. The man finally moved, his hand rising to his lips, fingers curled around the end of what was left of his cigarette in the European fashion. He inhaled slowly and let the smoke billow out of his nose.

Footsteps through the tall grass quickly chased the deer away.

Nick turned to look back at the railroad tracks. They continued straight for miles, gleaming in the mid day sun. The broken rail was moved off to the side of the embankment, and a new one in its place. Too much weight had worn it down over time. The broken man gazed at the crack in the steel with a knowing stare, a moment of solidarity and reflection passed by too quickly. It was time to hammer down the spikes and make it new. The Engineer would never know the difference. He had no need to care, as long as the track continued on in its perfect straight line. If only life was so simple.
