Some people do accept new science. Other people still believe the earth is flat.

But, in this case its physical assault and possible hate crime.

Transgender is real. Backed up by science and specialist in the field.

then start a petition for transgender bathrooms.

why does everything have to be a hate crime? nothing about this incident was personal. neither of the parties knew each other. no politics involved, no sexual preference or religious affiliation. there is no hate crime involved here. in fact, im tempted to go use a ladies room right now and play the hate crime card just because im bored and lonely and in need of free sympathy.

but i wont, because i have class and thats just shameful behavior.

You decide if something is a hate crime or not? I don't think so.

Hate crime is basically a deterrent. Years past I did a lot of reading up on it. Its basically to make you keep your personal prejudices to yourself - - - and it works. It does what its supposed to. Few people have ever been convicted of it.

This security guard clearly used her own personal prejudice to physically assault this transgender woman.

As far as what symbol is on the door, I don't care. How about it just says Restroom.

Disabled restrooms are for the disabled. Transgenders are not disabled.

"Hate crime" generally refers to criminal acts that are seen to have been motivated by bias against one or more of the types above, or of their derivatives. Incidents may involve physical assault, damage to property, bullying, harassment, verbal abuse or insults, mate crime or offensive graffiti or letters (hate mail).

the transgender issue is an opportunity for attention whores (yes, i will use that label here) to provoke a response and then twist it to suit a political agenda - in this case, that people are being discriminated against based on something that is difficult to test and therefore difficult to immediately falsify, providing a window of victimhood such as we see in the article in question.

This security guard clearly used her own personal prejudice to physically assault this transgender woman.

your knowledge of the matter is rather dubious given that your information comes from the internet. grandstanding is a glorious thing in the digital era. so forgive me if im more than a little skeptical.

allow me to reiterate the points i have made here:

1. the security woman was trained to deal with traditional definitions of male and female. until the definitions as outlined in her training are amended, it is perfectly acceptable that she default to said traditional definitions, particularly when the comfort and security of other customers is in question.

2. there is nothing wrong with using a handicap bathroom in order to avoid confusion and drama. if, however, the point is to create confusion and drama, then do exactly what that supposedly transgender woman did.

3. the supposedly transgender woman likely took both of these points into account before deciding to deliberately incite an issue by testing the policies of the facility and making them look bad while s/he was at it. which is a cheap and disgraceful tactic and could easily have been avoided with little to no discomfort. both bathrooms have perfectly functional toilets but s/he decided to make a mountain out of a molehill.

i have no respect for someone who fails to appreciate the position s/he put the security guard in. she was, after all, just doing her job in accordance with her training. feel free to research the security guards training courses and history of employment if you feel she isnt qualified for her job.

i use disabled bathrooms, and im not disabled. go ahead and shame me if you like.

You have prejudice against something you refuse to accept or understand.

Science/Specialists in the field of transgender are credible - - you are not.

prejudiced? darling, you dont know me. please dont impugn my character when i havent impugned yours. i happen to respect you, i just disagree with your assessment.

i dont see scientists writing the article in question, i see journalists cashing in. please understand, im commenting on the incident, not on transgender people in general. so please dont skew my posts that way.

And your knowledge on this particular incident comes from where?

the article in question, obviously.

Ms. Belcher said the guard told her, “You guys cannot keep coming in here and using our women’s restroom. They did not pass the law yet.”

its amazing how many inferences people have drawn from such a small article. but i guess now i just have to put on a wig and sing a shania twain song for a free pass to the ladies lavatory. good to know...in case i ever feel compelled to go there. i hope making jokes about the transgender condition isnt a hate crime also.

This isn't an issue of equal rights. This is an issue special rights for a small group of people. It's not as if establishments are refusing to let transgender men use even the men's room. THAT would be a matter of equal rights. But, what about everyone else's rights? A woman is supposed to accept that; just because some guy identifies as a woman that he has the right to walk in to a locker room while she changing or showering or even just using the bathroom? That's BS! If it's fair to expect women to share the ladies room with transgender men then it's just as fair to expect transgender men to share a men's room with other men. And vice versa.

We're expected to accept that everyone entering the ladies room is female despite not having any proof of each person's sex. How do you discern who should and shouldn't be required to provide "proof" of their sex? Next time you're standing at a urinal, I dare you to demand "proof" from the guy standing next to you. Let us know how that works after he's done pissing all over your leg.

A transgender woman isn't the same as a man. They live and work as women 24/7/365. They face the same challenges and discrimination that we do. They dress like us and identify themselves as women. If someone has all that behind them, what is the basis for your denial of who they are? Do you have proof to back up your claim that they're men?

Transgender women sharing the locked stall next to me doesn't bother me. What bothers me are the tough guys who think that they're now empowered to police women's restrooms. The only people causing problems are the perverts, and the guys trying to publicly prove their point by questioning/interrogating women entering restrooms.

Not all transgendered people are fully transitioned, and some will be quite obviously men. Others will easily pass as women. Either way that's all the proof you'd need. Any person dedicated enough to totally transform themselves into the opposite sex deserves to be recognised as that gender. However, those people aren't the problem.

Next time you're standing at a urinal, I dare you to demand "proof" from the guy standing next to you. Let us know how that works after he's done pissing all over your leg.

I don't care if he has a penis or not. There's more to being a man or a woman than what's between your legs. There are other criteria by which to determine gender, and if you don't meet them sufficiently people are not going to like it. Women aren't going to want a person in they're bathroom that looks like a man no matter how strongly he feels like a woman. At the same time I think if a man is convincing and no one will know, then who cares? Maybe that's not fair but it is what it is.

I'm not denying who they are on the inside nor can they deny who they are on the outside. I think both deserve careful consideration.

Honestly it doesn't bother me either. What bothers me is people being dismissive of everyone else's concerns so that a minority of transgender men and women can feel accepted as being something they weren't at birth. Some of them surely deserve that acceptance. And some of them probably don't. So where do we draw the line?

This gets so old.

Transgender is the gender your brain tells you you are. It has zip to do with physical sexual organs.

A transgender m/f woman is a woman - - not an "obvious" man because of "bits". No matter what's between her legs.

Physical transitioning is NOT required. No transitioning is required actually. Not only is it not required, its still in the minority.

ITS WHAT'S IN THE BRAIN.
