Are they nicely below our ribs so a kidney punch by a boxer will hurt a lot. Under the belly button.

Or are they almost covered by our ribs clearly above the belly button?

They are located closer to your back right above your waistline. If you ever get a severe kidney infection, you will know exactly where they are.

Might I suggest that you go to a library, not the internet, and consult the oldest book on human anatomy you can find.

I believe even Leanardo DaVinci produced a few very informative drawings on the subject.

Unless your "memories" have been "rewritten" as far back as the 16th century.

I have a little scar on the right side of my back, where medical professionals put a hole through my kidney to assist in the removal of a rather large stone.
The scar is located between the bottom two ribs.

I don't know how this would help you though, since the Mandela effect is supposed to change the time line and any answers you get from me would reflect the same info that Google has available.

I remember when we only had one kidney.

Of course, back then our brains used to be much lower down and closer to the end of our alimentary canals. It's that shared memory that caused the 'Mandela Effect.' The shared kinship of people whose brains were once in their asses.
