Two Royal Netherlands Air Force F-35As departed Edwards yesterday bound for Pax River in Maryland on the first leg of a trip to the Netherlands for testing and show and tells for the government. They were met in Maryland by a pair of KDC-10s that will escort them across the Atlantic. Once in the Netherlands they will conduct noise tests at Leeuwarden and Volkel air bases, along with an open house on the 10th and 11th of June. They're due to arrive in the evening of the 23rd.

Preparations for the arrival of the F-35 are in full swing. According to the current timetable, the aircraft will arrive in the Netherlands during the evening of Monday 23 May. The F-35 will depart from Edwards Air Force Base in California, operating base for the Dutch F-35 detachment. Tests are being carried out at the American test base to see how the F-35 performs in various operational scenarios, both individually and in combination with other weapon systems.

Two F-35s are scheduled to make the crossing to Europe. Before crossing the Atlantic, the aircraft will land at Pax River Naval Base in Maryland, after which two KDC-10 transport aircraft will escort the F-35s and refuel them mid-flight.

Good news for the program. Deliveries being made here in the states is one thing. Governments seeing these starting to fly locally by their neighbors is infinitely better publicity. This will surely chap Saab's and other's ass having them so close as they fail to sell their fighters.
