I'm very saddened by this. It's a consequence of misunderstanding the rules on wildlife. It's also possible the father and son who put the calf into the car might not have understood English well?

The bison's loss of life really needs to serve as an example to the visitors that this is an outcome if you, even with the best intent, have direct contact with young animals euthanasia is a likely outcome. To mention that the quarantine for brucellosis takes months and no immediate fostering and or a shelter was available.

The foreign tourists thought the young bison was freezing and hungry so they put it in their car.

They drove it to the ranger station so the rangers would care for it.

The tourists were fined for interfering with the wildlife.

The young bison was not accepted by its herd anymore.

The young bison continually approached tourists for food and security.

The bison had to be put down because coming into contact with animals outside the park would spread disease.

This is the story as I understand it.

It's difficult when a source has an agenda and only portrays a story in a specific light.
