And to add to your point -- echo chambers can exponentially grow out of a small handful of people. All it takes are core group of people shouting and screaming the loudest and bumping each other's discussions. Eventually the folks with dissenting opinions don't see the point in sticking around and being attacked constantly for disagreeing. It doesn't take long for a population of dissenting opinions to vaporize.

Basically, one faction produces and promotes more content than anyone else. The community becomes saturated and unpalatable to dissenting ideas/opinions.
