After all how informative is it to read something along the lines of...."Thank you for your amazingly thought provoking question. And after much pondering the answer is of course...yes."
Quote function....just sayin'.

The whole point is that they can just reply to a post and you can click on the name at the top of that reply to see the original post.

Just like you can with my reply to you where it says "a reply to: MissSmartypants" .

Less clutter that way as well.

I admit the reply is less clutter, but being they are usually only available for questions for a limited time, I hope they all understand and use the quote feature. Readers may not have an immediate question but would like clarification. I find it easier to skim over the original post and get to the meat of the response. So I have to agree with the op, that having the AMA individuals understanding of the use of quote button will make their responses extremely more clear.

The problem with that is in the AMA that didn't appear so it was unclear what the question was and who asked it.

OK then. I got the impression a large percentage of members didn't understand that the "reply" links back to the original post. However if people prefer to see a full post quoted then fine by me.

The reply function is enough. You cant expect every AMA person to learn the site, but he did use 'reply' eventually.

I've been here for awhile and don't know how to reply to more than one poster.
Anyone here want to let me in on the secret on how to do that?

There is no forum function that allows multi-quoting or replying like on other forums. If you want to reply or quote multiple people in one post, you have to do it manually.

I just open another window and copy the quote/reply from that window over to my single post in the other window. More work, but that's the only option to multi-quoting/replying.

I don't use a second window. To make this post I clicked "reply" to the first post, copy.
Refresh page, click reply to second post, paste, then copy both.
Refresh page, click reply to third post, paste, then write this reply.

Back to the OP, yes it would be nice if the ATS staff made sure the AMA guest knew how to use either the reply or quote function in advance of starting the AMA. David Icke finally got the hang of it but it didn't start off too well and he said he was having trouble figuring out how to do it. After he's already made numerous replies without using "reply" or "quote" isn't the best time to be trying to figure it out, 30 minutes before the AMA starts would be better.

Awwww
How hard is it...

"Hey thanks mr/mrs/IT for joining us on AMA"
"When you answer question PRESS QUOTE in
upper right corner of the question you are reading"

SIMPLE!!!!

I much prefer seeing the question asked on the response post so it is all seen at a glance, makes more sense that way than having to bring up a seperate box, then x it out after reading

quote and reply to are NOT unique to ATS - they are std forum features - PS a certain recent AMA guest has his own forum
