In your opinion, who are some of the most underrated vocalists in recent decades?

I would say,for my list, number one with a bullet - Darius Rucker of Hootie And The Blowfish:

I would say that I am but then again I am a bit drunk and certainly would not expect others to agree

That dude was me lol and my swansong to woo mrsnonspecific, I just thought I would throw ego out of the window and put myself in the mix

Other than that Eddie Veder from Pearl Jam was better than he gets credit for in my opinion.

I guess these people are not underrated by their fans but short of the first entry they might not have been heard by the average listener.

I have often thought Eric Burdon from the Animals has one of the best voices I have ever heard. Powerful, evocative, tells the story....

Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth...While early on they mixed in much heavier metal with death vox I have always loved his clean voice.

Brendan Perry of Dead Can Dance....In this clip he is covering the great Tim Buckley with Song to the Siren. While he has many songs with DCD you can put on either of his two solo albums and just sort of float away...

Not sure if many people know him, but I love Tom Waits.

You are a lowly Red Shirt compared to the great Bill Shatner.

+1 for Tom Waits.

Scott Walker - his new album is stunning, but I'm in the mood for this

and Nick Cave

all three bear the merit of being some of the greatest living wordsmiths.

Yes. Although calling Bill Shatner 'God' is redundant.

And lowly red shirt?

Star Trek reference.
