Russia will be the one to pop Nukes off first.

Wrong! Very, very wrong in fact.

What the hell are they teaching in history classes these days!

The USA is and remains THE ONLY country to deploy nuclear weapons in war...TWICE!

Have you never heard of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

I'd suggest trying to refrain from wrongly slagging off Russia at any and all opportunity just for the sake of it, and learn some of your own country's actual history mate.

This announcement probably has something to do with the U.S. switching on the European missile defence shield tomorrow.

U.S. to switch on European missile shield despite Russian alarm

To me, the missile shield is a political tool rather than an actual defense tool.

Or have we all forgotten how easy it was for that Chinese sub to park itself off the US coast and fire a missle off in US water a year back...the real nuclear threat would not be delivered via the obvious routes and means...that will simply be a distraction.

ICBM's are stoppable if you scramble fighter jets and gun them down.

Kinetic weapons, fired from orbiting platforms cannot be stopped...period.

If something like 'The rods from god' were also equipped with a tactical yield nuclear payload, the thing could thunder down and release it's payload to target elsewhere before the rod hit and delivered it's kinetic energy to the target region.

That will spoil a lot of people's day, and will be almost impossible to stop.

It's a recent soviet project, The news release was a few days ago. Stealth ICBM and it's called RS-28 Sarmat "Satan". According to Kremlin, It's capable of wiping out a nation the size of Texas or France. Links below..

It would take multiple RS-28 Samrat's to destroy a continent, However you can soon expect Russia to have triple the amount needed to do so. Apparently Russia just want's to watch the world burn..

Yet Russia has never once, in all of history used it's nuclear weapons to wage war...the USA has twice.

Who wants to watch the world burn again?

The asteroid that killed the dinosaurs didn't leave a crafter the size of Texas and it still affected the entire world.

as many posters have said the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs didn't have multiple war heads.
plus it didn't kill everything at once, it created what best could be described as a nuclear winter. choked most life out, but still didn't kill everything. after the sun came back out and the atmosphere cleared little critters starting crawling out of their holes.

now in that aspect, would it be possible that multiple war heads in one spot create enough dust, dirt, and fallout to rise into the atmosphere and cause a nuclear winter, i would have to guess yes, especially when everyone fires back.

That can be foiled rather easily these days...

That is not even remotely close to eliminating the IR exhaust heat signature from an intercontinental missile.

Awww...easy-peasy.

Throw just the right amount of computer controlled, real time injected and flow adjusted liquid Nitrogen or Helium into the exhaust and most of the IR disappears...same tech used on tank and vehicle IR exhaust emissions.

Call me when you figure out how to get 'most' to all.

Don't need all...most is enough, although with precise control of cryo, virtually all can be masked long enough to make eventual positive missile IR detection a moot point...the target would be all but struck and if that target are retalitory launch silos, the debate over all or most is adademic.

Is that so? What is the fuel/masking agent proportions you need to spoof United States satellites?

Yeah, My Great Grandpa was Marine Special Forces during WW2. He jumped into Okinawa and walked around with a M1A1 Napalm Flame Thrower on his back raising hell for America.. I know History, America used Nukes because it was a last resort.

USA used nukes twice in WW2 to end the war. We've been in multiple conflicts since and haven't used any nukes.
Russia is a threat to the world.. Why?

Having nukes for self defense is understandable.. Having Nukes designed to destroy an entire country is above the realm of self defense.. It's taking something lethal "A program that should be shut down world wide" and turning it into an even more dangerous weapon.. All the while, Russia is on the move. Coincidence? I think not. Russia is more aimed at using nukes than anyone, They even been considering using nukes against ISIS in Syria..
There was also reports of Russia detonating a small nuclear weapon in Ukraine back in February of 2015.

wearechange.org...

Is it Americas problem that Russia is Invading Ukraine? No, Ukraine is not Nato but at the same time The United States recognizes that every country has the right to be free and not be overtaken. Nobody else in World is helping Ukraine. All that America has ever done is help other countries and destroy terrorists. What we did in Normandy still echoes through time.

No, they're not at all stoppable like that, unless you have fighter jets circling directly over the launch area.

On the way down: the warheads fall from stratospheric heights (100,000 feet+) to detonation level in three to five seconds.

This is what a ICBM attack looks like to the target: "Hey, what's that fast moving ligh-WHITEFLASH-i'm dead-BOOM"

Taken a look here at about 2:00 and following for an animation

And here at 5:15 and following for the real thing.

Take a look at the performance requirements for the Sprint ABM.

It's crazy, but it's an astonishing piece of aerospace hardware, back when USA was damn good at that "Can Do!" business.

Whatever it is or isn't capable of doing, the test is delayed, probably until early this summer.

That's insane, Thanks for sharing the videos.

The SR-28 Satan ICBM supposedly moves at Mach 23+, That's moving at 17,647+ Miles per hour.

Would it be possible to Intercept the ICBM in space? With an SR-72 Blackbird?

What's the best counter for a Stealth ICBM that moves at that kind of speed?

I would imagine that with the SR-28 being stealth, Counter Ballistic Missiles wouldn't be able to do much..

It's super-duper-incredibly difficult. They split into many pieces with many decoys which are indistinguishable in space. Space is very very big, and man made stuff very very small.

And this was the job of the Spartan missile. It had an enormous 5 megaton warhead surrounded by a whole bunch of gold (no kidding) to emit very high flux x-rays which could shock the incoming warheads at a distance. Of course you would also be nuking yourself with enormous fallout and EMP.

And that assumes that the missiles were coming in purely ballistically and were easily detectable by radar, which are no longer good assumptions.

With an SR-72 Blackbird?

Not even close.

Be as far away as possible.

Undefendable genocide weapons they are.

Here is how ICBM's really work and the times involved.

(turn down volume before playing, this is the same video as posted above but with flight annotations added to the graphics.
)

MIRV's are essentially unstoppable on the way back down because they are in the atmosphere for such a brief time.
