It is a sad day when regular folks can pull together and overcome a tragedy, but our politicians cant stop spitting in eachothers faces long enough to get us the help we need.

The Trudeau government has yet to respond to an offer by Russia to dispatch massive water bombers and fire fighting specialists to battle the growing inferno around Fort McMurray, Alta.

The proposal was made late last week by Vladimir Puchkov, the Russian minister of emergency measures.

A spokesman for Russia's embassy in Ottawa, Kirill Kalinin, said Sunday that they continue to stand "ready to help our Canadian partners to fight the ongoing wildfires in Alberta."

CBC NEWS

If anyone thinks that we could not use some help from our Russian kin, please put your hand up. Otherwise a quick email to the PMO might go a long way to save as much bush and infrastructure as we can.

BC cant even help Alberta and we are going to turn down those that can cause we think Putin is a big meanie?...

Russia is 'evil', its against NATO policy to let them do anything helpful.

Sadly that authority lies not in Canada but in Brussels. Brussels is letting Canada burn…

Canada should accept their offer and not snub them, accepting Russia's aid would help build a teamwork attitude between the two nations and build better relations. Sometimes accepting help is as important as offering it.

Australian fire fire fighters are helping in this crisis.

So why not The Russians. Strange world.

What does Russia have to offer? Beets and vodka?
They certainly can't offer infrastructure help or money....
Why should Canada become beholden to a socialist despot??

No need for their "help"....as they have nothing to offer worth taking...

The way Russia has been acting lately, they might be dropping something other than water and fire suppressant.

Just an observation by a news junky.

Russia has a tendency to offer its "hand" in friendship with unforeseen strings attached..
I mean their "union" of soviet states was began as a commune of governing bodies "united" in the fervent belief that lenin's Marxism was gospel....aptly named the United Soviet socialist republic...
For you millennials, there wasn't an actual curtain of iron...it was through Russia's will that this Union existed....

With Russia, a hand is offered in friendship while the other is balled in a fist...
This is their ethos and Canada would be wise to watch the fist and ignore the outstretched hand...

The Russians did not have a magical transformation into beneficent beings simply because perestroika failed so miserably....

Russia and Canada used to get along great. Harper ruined a good portion of our relations with many world leaders, we should repair as many of those relationships as possible.

Russia and Canada have far too much in common to not be comrades.
I say we could use their help sometimes, and apparently they do have very good fire fighting skills and equipment.

I will let some of the Russian firefighters know that.

They didn't wait for our governments to play nice, they just shelled out of their own pockets and came.

I've heard Harper referred to as a socialist despot as well, thankfully he's gone.
I've also heard Canada referred to as a socialist country so many times, although that's usually from the American government 🙄

As far as what they have to offer, they're one of our next door neighbours, and we used to have good trade relations. There used to be tourism between our countries too.
Cold weather comrades....

I think Russia knows that Canada's involvement in snubbing Russia internationaly is compulsory. I don't believe that the Russian people have any Bones with Canadians and I would like to believe that is vice versa.

For what it is worth, Thank you Russia, it is the thought that counts.

Please tell them thanks...

As for Russia, their beneficence is practically non-existent...

This list, by the way, is the official governmental registries(the US dominates non-centralized charity by 10 fold but that's another issue)
Where is Russia, you ask?
****Spoiler alert: their aid offered as related to gdp is dead last among developed countries...pun intended.
en.m.wikipedia.org...

As I said, Russia offers a hand in help with the other balled in a fist...please study history...
Or I would be glad to offer links to its duplicitous past...

We are currently receiving help from around the globe. Media only deals with the state sanctioned crews, but there is certainly independents (individuals and crews) here from everywhere.

Water-bombers. They have Water-bombers to offer.

Canada was one of the countries that enthusiastically supported the the Economic Sanctions against Russia over Ukraine that are still in place. That may be what is at the bottom of the hesitation to accept Russian help.

All our government leaders have caused us to question any sincerity and help offered by any opposing governments. Surely, some will say Russia is just using this emergency to have closer ties with Canada, a country that borders the U.S..

Country's around the world should all come together and help others in need. There's too much conflict and not enough friendly communication among other countries. Just imagine what this world would be like if we could just get along together. We're all responsible for preserving this small planet for future generations.

People don't seem to realize that it isn't just up to one person to make this call. Also, who cares about politics at a time like this!? Help is help, doesn't matter where it comes from or who offers. There are many instances of countries offering their help to another country that needs it, even if they don't see eye to eye on the political field.
