In what can only be called a challenge to newly elected President-elect Mahmoud Abbas,Palestinian militants killed six Israelis in an attack at a
crossing into Gaza. Israeli troops reportedly killed 3 gunmen in the attack after several of the militants blew themselves up. Three groups claimed
responsibility for the attack included the armed wing of Fatah, the movement that Abbas is the de facto head of.
GAZA (Reuters) - Palestinian militants killed six Israelis in a bombing and shooting attack at the main commercial crossing into Gaza, mounting their
strongest challenge yet to President-elect Mahmoud Abbas and his call for non-violence.
Israeli troops killed three gunmen in an ensuing exchange of fire at the Karni border terminal between Israel and Gaza, the army said. Militants said
the men blew themselves up after infiltrating the heavily guarded compound late on Thursday.

This will be the first test and one that Israel is no doubt going to be watching. Abbas must rein in the militants otherwise Israel will not deal
with him either. However, it is unclear if he can do so and not get assassinated himself. There are extremists on both sides that have no interest in
peace and will do what they can to perpetuate this endless cycle of violence.
