Thank you for the laugh.

You are technically correct though. Kids HAVE have more killed people than muslim and they are not even trying. So has riding bicycles by the way.

That assumes of course that we set aside 9/11.

I appreciate the input but I would to stay focused on this topic. Fair?

Murphey law as applied.

If their have been 53 deaths we have to assume that there have been hundreds og incident of kids handling gun.

The pace is 212 deaths for the year. I'll guess 10,000 incidents we a kid has touched a gun with no supervision.

As parents can we accept kind of risk too OUR safety?
Can we accept it for the kids?

Thank for the humor. I did not know the stat of dogs killing people is one per year.

Per if clean up the kids shooting people issue we can reduce this number too.

I'D rather adovate safety.

I understand your cynism. That is the NRA position
And it is back ass wards. If we did not get that attitude from their up escahalon's we might be able to convince them to shift some if their energy from advocacy to providing gun safty of all levels.

There are new posts on this. Check em out

I agree with you that these people exist in any activity.

They usually have a bunch of anecdotes that justify their position. With the gun crowd I find they reduce precautions so they be prepared to defend/attack quicker. To defend with a gun IS to attack another person. I agree with this for combat but not for Joe blow on the street.

I have worked safty in a couple of industries. It is much harder to change a persons attitude than their skills

On the issue of gun and kids it really shouldnt be to hard to keep the guns from the kids. A high shelf will suffice as a barrier for small kids. Full safty procedures trigger lock etc help to.

But if you really think you need fast access to gun at least put it up high on shelf etc.

Do we want our kids to live their life in hand cuffs?

Of course not? This definatly an issues of keeping the guns away from kids.

Parents are practically leaving loaded gun on the kids laps whose to blame?

Who to we try to educate; the three year who cannot spell or dad with say a high school diploma?

I am not dissing you. Every point even meant in jest is worth discussing. Thank you for being here

I wish predictive Grammer and spelling would stop trucking with my words.

It sounds like they did a job keeping your family safe. Cudos to them!!

I am sure you will acknowledge that you were never left alone with a loaded gun. That the kind of bahavior that is cause these incidents. 53 this year and counting. Fundamental you agree with " safety"

How do we change the attitudes of parent who are causing these problems? I sincerely ask for input.

I always say there's nothing more dangerous than having guns around kids.

Gun worshippers don't understand that they're more likely to get injured or killed with their guns than their juvenile dream of heroically stopping a zombie invasion or gang bangers.

If the kids can reach it they will touch.

How dare you blame the kids when gun are lying around loose.

Parents have accept the resposiblity to put the guns out of reach. Little kids are accidently killing people because parent are being sloppy with their toys

Give you head a shake sir.

They see gun played with in TV and by there parent and you think little Bill would touch it?

Go home right now take you gun
OFF of the coffee table put it on a high shelf.

Then go play with your children and think about what you just said.

We can discuss swimming pool safty in another thread.

You agree that the parents are responsible for safty and safty training.

You should be with us on idea that if the parents are leaving load gun lying around the house , the car, where ever that they messing up badly.

Toddlers should not be anywhere near guns.

Stands to reason after all we don't let them play with the Domestos or matches.

Why they should be any where near a fire arm is simply beyond me.

I think the the scale slides around with age/maturity of the kids.

But off the top of my head:

1-5 no knowledge of the location; full secured when do not used

5-7 these the bang stick you see on TV
If you find one do not touch, it's in that room daddy loves you this can hurt you don't touch

7 -10 bow and arrows, learn range safety etc

8-12 .22 caller rifles, target shooting etc

This is just my suggestion

A thing to remember as a parent is we want to see our kids emulate us, copy us.

Sometime we push our kids in funny directions because of this. Remember we have to keep mind want to do and what they can do are different. What we want them to do and what they can do are/ may be different.

This all goes out the window if you kids a little pychotic on the playground dis -membering rodents.

Thank you for opening the door to that aspect.

Sloppy gun safty by parents (53 x etc see op)

I am not blaming TV. But kids can see guns win arguements , I kow where daddies gun is, he showed me how to use it. Bang

My friend has to young boys and general they are great. This story is not. The littlest one badly hurt hurt his brother. Father does the big chat and askes him to apologize "because you did not mean hurt your brother". He refused because he meant to hurt his brother much more. He list a game of checker to my daughter he went for her eyes. Good thing I was close. The is six year old.

Kids do not have the emotion experience etc that we do and they do have the brain power to figure things out.

There are lots of reasons parent should be responsible for gun safty .
