Personal social skills, IRL are disappearing. The times I am out with people and they are checking their phones all the time!! People find it hard to live in the moment with the people they are with - this desire to be constantly checking, posting, connected with someone on the other end of a device is weird.

As TN, said it is a product of the interwebs, and some people have become Pavlovian dogs - every time they hear a beep or a notification they twitch and salivate
"Must check now!"

Often my phone will message during the day when I am working and I will ignore it as I am busy - others look at me when they hear it and say "Aren't you going to check your phone?" I just tell them I will deal with it later.

This could make for a great thread on the forums.

I applaud you, that is absolutely perfect. And Funny.

It is so ridiculous. This absolute obsession with instant gratification and the fear of being alone.
That is what it come down to I think. We can't handle our own company.

Well dear I will apologize for apologizing.

But I think we must oppose this madness. I never see any one out side unless they are mowing the lawn or something is necessary to keep up appearances.
And every one has to check their stupid device at least sixty times an hour.
This should not be the norm.
It is wrong.
It isn't uniting people, it is pulling them apart.

The flip side

A few years ago the Mother in Law was with us for a few weeks. Wife and I were both on ipads, reading news, games etc and her mother was reading a book.

She said that we should put down the ipads, as it was anti social. I disagreed with her as both my wife and I were regularly reading out things and sharing things (chatting occasionally as we surfed and played), whereas she was being more antisocial by reading her book. Was she telling us about the plot, characters? No.

When I read a book, sometimes I like to share funny parts - yes, I read a lot of comedy stuff.

What happened to our island??? hahaha!!

The double posts thing comes when ATS is 'wonky' (BIG technical term there!)
It has been 'wonky' for me today. Thought about posting in BB&Q but, meh...ADD and all.

It is a shame that people don't get out and enjoy life!
You know, like I say, I am as guilty as everyone else.

We go to sporting tournaments and everyone , including the players, are snapping photos and uploading.
We go for a hike (in the mountains here, truly lovely) and we have to stop for a photo op or whatever.

When we go to the beach for vacas I feel like I spend half my time taking photos of everyone for everything and then those little folks spend hours uploading them.

It's a crazy vicious addictive cycle.

On the plus side for 'internet'...if I can't find the kiddos and they won't respond to 'regular' text/calls I can usually track them down through FB, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and the like! LOL

you are unlikely to hear my dulcid tones on here, in any language. I mainly speak Romance languages, but I do have a smattering of a few others, not Hungarian sadly. That could be next, who knows?

However someone once did make a podcast interviewing me many moons ago. That is out there on the interwebs somewhere.

I have to just get past the indifference. But if I ignore them, am I not as rude as they seem to be?
I like saying hello to people and looking them in the eye and having a conversation that has a pause here and there, and doesn't include "beeps".

Perhaps I am a stubborn dinosaur. When did that meteor hit any way?
