Right off the top of my head, "War" by Meshuggah.

Someone mentioned "Arise" by Sepultura, i would like to add "Chaos A.D."

I haven't posted in years, but I wanted to mention Miracle of Sound: The Lucky Ones. It's not hard metal or anything like that, but it is about the end of the world with an incredible message. He's a solo video game song writer and performer. Probably not what you're looking for, but worth a listen if you have the time

Here's the song list, with the songs in order, for those interested in duplicating my Apocalypse CD.

IT'S VERY IMPORTANT TO KEEP THE SONGS IN THE ORDER I LIST THEM ON YOUR CD. The reason is I worked on seven revisions of this CD, and this running order seems to be the best one as far as having the tension build to a climax and then a denouement.

1. Marching feet sound effects
2. Five Years (David Bowie)
3. Eve of Destruction (Barry McGuire)
4. The End (The Raveonettes)
5. I'd Love to Change the World (Ten Years After)
6. Bad Moon Rising (Mourning Ritual featuring Peter Dreimanis)
7. Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology) (Marvin Gaye)
8. For What It's Worth (Buffalo Springfield)
9. Silent Running (Mike + the Mechanics)
10. Gimme Shelter (Stone Sour feat. Lzzy Hale or you can use the original Rolling Stones version)
11. London Calling (The Clash)
12. Last to Die (Bruce Springsteen)
13. Red Skies (The Fixx)
14. Seconds (U2)
15. Explosion sound effect with the sound of the wind that follows an atomic explosion
16. Stand or Fall (The Fixx)
17. 2 Minutes to Midnight (Iron Maiden)
18. Electric Funeral (Black Sabbath)
19. Goodbye Blue Sky (Pink Floyd)
20. The End (The Doors--I used the edited version from Apocalypse Now soundtrack because it leaves out the Oedipus verse)
21. Explosion sound effect

All are available for download except the Fixx songs. I had to purchase the CD "The Ultimate Collection" because I could not find the original versions for download. That may have been corrected by now. I used the Stone Sour version of Gimme Shelter because I also own the Stones' CD and didn't want to become sick of their version playing it on my compilation. The Stones' version IS superior, but Stone Sour's is close enough for government work.

Some of you are disappointed no doubt that not all my choices are hard rock. I wanted an eclectic mix, but someday I may do a strictly hard rock version of this same CD, there just aren't as many potential songs to choose from.

I would love to have included "A-Bomb on Wardour Street" by the Jam, but there just wasn't room on an 80-minute CD. It was bumped by "Last to Die" as I felt the Springsteen song better conveyed the need to escape what's coming.

As far as the sound effects, you can download those off Amazon. I just listened to several to get the ones I wanted.

All good suggestions, and I've played them all.

One reason I initially chose "2 Minutes to Midnight" is because of the tempo, but I'm just not quite satisfied with that choice.

I've also considered Deep Purple's "Burn" because it's about the same tempo.

I'm looking for something along those lines, but maybe with lyrics more precisely dealing with the end of the world, etc.

There may not be such a song.

I may have to stick with "2 Minutes to Midnight" as "close enough."

I made some changes: I think I like this song order better:

1. Marching feet sound effects
2. Five Years (David Bowie)
3. Eve of Destruction (Barry McGuire)
4. The End (The Raveonettes)
5. I'd Love to Change the World (Ten Years After)
6. Bad Moon Rising (Mourning Ritual featuring Peter Dreimanis)
7. Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology) (Marvin Gaye)
8. For What It's Worth (Buffalo Springfield)
9. Gimme Shelter (Stone Sour feat. Lzzy Hale or you can use the original Rolling Stones version)
10. London Calling (The Clash)
11. Red Skies (The Fixx)
12. Silent Running (Mike + the Mechanics)
13. Last to Die (Bruce Springsteen)
14. Stand or Fall (The Fixx)
15. Seconds (U2)
16. Explosion sound effect with the sound of the wind that follows an atomic explosion
17. 2 Minutes to Midnight (Iron Maiden)
18. Electric Funeral (Black Sabbath)
19. Goodbye Blue Sky (Pink Floyd)
20. The End (The Doors--I used the edited version from Apocalypse Now soundtrack because it leaves out the Oedipus verse)
21. Hawk screeching sound effect
