All combat arts compete.

No they don't.

There are numerous Japanese koryu schools which maintain the traditions of the Samurai class of feudal Japan, whose curriculum were intended to be used in combat. Most of the extant schools do not compete. They aren't sports, but they are certainly martial arts geared towards combat.

We can also look at more recent arts, like Krav Maga, whose adherents rarely compete but claim to be training for realistic situations.

Specific martial arts can involve sports, but many don't.

whether it's the point or is unavoidable...there is very little difference.
A great difference. The point of blood sport is to hurt someone, to the delight of an audience.

I do not hang glide because I might get hurt.

the point is to win...just not in a pillow fight. Blood is an unavoidable byproduct.

If you're into preventing injuries...maybe you should write to you congressman to pull out your troops ?

Yes. By kicking someone's ass for no reason but entertainment. Big fun.

Is war done for entertainment purposes?

Boxing actually isn't to just knock the other person out...

There is a sweet science to the sport... In a good club they spar for points, not damage...

though admittedly most boxing clubs want sluggers

Not a wire anywhere.
It's just stupid. Watch it if that's what gets your rocks off. You can even make believe you're the one delivering the ass kicking.

Cool was just asking.

I watch MMA occasionally, mostly if its a big fight, but I couldn't be bothered to watch most sports.
