Linda Moulton Howe, reporter: “Remember when [Arnie Gundersen] was referencing the gargantuanism — it appears to be increasing, as he said, in the third generation of plants. And who knows what’s going to happen in the fourth, fifth, and so forth. The trauma of seeing these gigantic… there is a photograph of this, what they call ‘gargantuan strawberry’ in Fukushima Prefecture… [There] is a gigantic beet — it is almost as big as the upper part of the man trying to hold the big beet. And then [there] is something that several people have reported in different parts of Fukushima — where trees of, in this case, it’s a photograph of [leaves] from two species of maple. And it shows a contrast from what a normal leaf should look like, to one that is, gosh, three times bigger. And they’re seeing more and more of this — people are reporting more and more of these abnormalities in the trees in the surroundings.”

Please try to hold off on the Godzilla jokes. We're talking about DNA damage here. This situation reminds of me the old adage:

"When you look at an iceberg, you only see a small portion of it, for nine-tenths of it is under the water."

I wonder what serious damage the radiation from Fukushima Daiichi is causing that we can't see. There are other apparent changes going on that we can see:

TV: Surge in babies being born with extra arms, legs after Fukushima — “I feel officials know the cause is radiation” — Nurse says many are getting abortions to avoid ‘inconvenient’ babies — “High number of stillbirths” — Many people reporting cancers, even far away from Fukushima (VIDEO)

Major Japan Newspaper: Mutations in nearly every fir tree by Fukushima plant — Insects with missing legs or crooked — Abnormalities also found in monkeys, fish and frogs

Note: I do not endorse enenews.com but sometimes it's almost necessary to link to their site.

Considering the insects eating those crops and then the creatures that eat the insects and then the creatures eating those creatures, 1 can only imagine how the marine ecosystems are developing out of site...

Interesting article. I wasn't aware that gargantuanism was even a thing. I'm assuming these plants are radioactive otherwise wouldn't something like this be beneficial ? Larger plant = more food.

Also worth mentioning that enenews is just an aggregator and the real source is Coast to Coast AM

They adapt. Like the earth worms in Chernobyl that started mating sexually rather than asexually to get a better shot at healthy genes.

Life finds a way.

Maybe 225M years ago the Chickens, Lizards and other critters got radiated and stomped the earth for 180M years ?

I think I read about just malformed Vegetation and some critters around Chernoble ..

Yeah I posted a thread not too long ago about how radioactive wild boars are breeding out of control and roaming the land, tearing everything apart and creating nuclear hazards for anyone they encounter. The bodies can't even be burned because they'll release radioactive particles into the air.

Don't let Monsanto see those pics!

Seriously, I can't believe people have written Fukushima off as a bump in the road, "nothing to see here" event. It may be several more years before the effects are even more obvious but they'll be there. There was some pics I posted from Chernobyl that even after all this time, the deformities hadn't corrected. Sure, many species are still alive and adapting....but they're still deformed.

Tell me again, who is the "nuclear expert" here? Arnie Gunderson? I don't see any quote from him about gargantuanism. Though he is, and has been for a long time, an anti-nuke proponent.

Good idea.

Who?

What occurred at Fukushima is, indeed, a disaster. The region, like Chernobyl, will be uninhabitable for generations to come.

...and so, nukes are quite nice to have in your backyard and ocean, right? That stuff doesn't spread and it doesn't stand the remotest chance of fouling nations and oceans for thousands of years?

Oh, I forgot, to you UFOs don't exist either, the government says they don't. What is the slogan for ATS again?

As with almost all other posts on this subject there is little credibility to the claims being made and little actual knowledge about radiation and nuclear energy etc.

Ask yourselves this... why is it ALWAYS an anti-nuke site being linked to?
Why is it ALWAYS "sources say" and "unnamed locals suggest"?
Why is it ALWAYS someone with a history of unfounded claims, junk science and extreme anti-nuclear views being quoted as "proof"?

Where are all the papers by actual scientific researchers?
Where are all the reports by actual authorities?
Where are all the photos and videos of all the radical things they claim?

The reason of course is simple, the truth is actually a lot less dramatic and exciting and the real science doesn't benefit the anti-nuclear lobby as much as scaremongering does.

No one denies that Fukushima was a disaster, no one denies that we need an alternative, safer method of power generation than nuclear, and no one rejects the fact that the world would be a far better place without nuclear weapons. The difference is, of course, that most of us actually get that we do not live in a utopia, things are actually complicated, it's not as easy as some people want to claim and it's not a "conspiracy" when there is nothing to report from this location.

And FYI, there are hundred of people who ARE going back to their old homes every year, to visit the scene and witness what has happened to the area since. And no, they're no tripping over gargantuan veggies, being attacked by 20 foot mutant spiders or even being exposed to harmful radiation at a level able to harm them.

It was a terrible event which caused massive damage to the environment and will need constant work to mitigate, but believing every blogger, every YouTube video, every doom porn thread is not doing anyone here any good. Go and read the science and stop believing the junk.

State Secrecy Law

Start researching Japan's State Secrecy Law if you really want to get a better grasp on what you just posted.

Is Coast to Coast AM an "anti-nuke site"? If you're going to claim that, where's your evidence?

Where are all the papers by actual scientific researchers?

The following map is from the article above. The yellow dots below represent places where cesium-134 was detected.

Where are all the reports by actual authorities?

Former US Gov’t Official: “The elephant in the room is Fukushima radiation”

NOAA agent: "Fukushima is a big concern… Fukushima is always on people’s minds…"

The above is just a drop in the bucket. I don't have time to write a book on this topic right now. If you need more information, I suggest you use a search engine because it's not hard to find.

You mean the same way we all have Official Secrets acts and National Security designations for sensitive information?
What you neglect to mention, of course, is that at the same time the Japanese government was restarting its military. Of course, when you're passing legislation to create a defensive army for the first time in decades you need to create the supporting laws, laws which all our nations also have and which don't actually have any real impact on press freedom.

People can still study what's going on at Fukushima, and people are still able to report on that freely. You seem to think that this law has somehow been rushed through to prevent people from talking about what happened there when it's really nothing more than a country creating an Official Secrets Act to protect sensitive information relating to their developing military.

No, in this case it's a nutty conspiracy site making all kind of claims about the NWO, Chemtrails and fantasy characters. Is that supposed to be "credible"?

I'll pick this link out as it seems to be one of the most appropriate when it comes to actual credibility rather than anti-nuclear bombast.

which was detected in 2 out of 206 samples taken in 2014

Only 2 samples out of 206?

are attributed to a number of factors including the following: resuspension of plutonium-contaminated soil (see Chapter 6); ambient air from historical operations; resuspended fallout from previous atmospheric testing; or fallout from the Fukushima nuclear accident.

Low level indications which could be the result of numerous different things as IS NOT stated to be from Fukushima at all.

The highest values and percentage of the DCS for the plutonium-239+240 detections were as follows: Livermore Site perimeter: 13.4 nBq/m3 (0.36 aCi/m3)… Livermore off-site locations: 10.4 nBq/m3 (0.28 aCi/m3).

From what I can see this is barely above normal background radiation, less dangerous than what you would be exposed to as an Air Steward.
I'm no nuclear scientist, but it looks as though this is pretty meaningless. It clearly states that this is low-level, that the cause could be any one of a number of things, and there is no real risk to the public in these findings.

Indeed, it's not hard to find if you believe everything on a conspiracy blog or an anti-nuclear campaigning site. The doom porn is always out there for everyone to see. The real science takes a lot more work to read and actually understand - which is perhaps another reason why so many people prefer to just read the bombastic bs of the conspiracy theorists and the tabloids which is generally based on nothing but simplistic notions of "nuclear bad!"

Once again, I am not in support of nuclear power, I would prefer us all to evolve beyond this dangerous technology and consume less while producing from renewable's. However, I am a rationalist, and I do not simply believe the latest blog post from a conspiracy site or the latest radical doom porn YouTube video.

And speaking of YouTube videos, you would love BioNerd, she's a great scientist who I believe works in the medical field of cancer treatment. She makes videos investigating the effects of Chernobyl on the area, makes regular trips to Pripyat, has been inside the control room of Reactor 4 and spent a lot of time in the surrounding area checking out the deserted locations and military sites there.

You should check her out

I wonder if it's only the first generation of plants and animals that is damaged or if these mutations are hereditary and will remain there for all time to come.

I dont care if that Strawberry is Irradiated to hell or not. I would eat that with Cream milked from a Chernobyl cow any day of the week. I mean, what the hell could go wrong. ?

So i might grow a couple of extra limbs, so what. I might be considered ugly as sin by today's modern standards, but that Strawberry, Ugly as she is, sure looks like it's positively thriving. I wonder how much you could charge for that a Wimbledon.
