Greetings-

I apologize but I'm going to have to type "FOUL!!!!!!" Is this no different than a group meeting on here or another like site and then "teaming up" and hitting different threads in order to play? Instead of an avatar, these folks use ponies. Not to mention one can get really intricate in their design of an avatar and other ones offer to make an avatar that is "Special".. Oh they're using 'ponies' BFD. What happened to not giving 2 squirts about things that either don't hurt anyone else or their own Self?

As far as questioning these folks' mental state; I'm certain You could find a psychiatrist or 30 that would opine that 'getting into a place that takes away from Your daily stress' would be a positive. Some fish as a hobby, some hunt and some traipse about playing 'make believe' . WGAS?

What is their "death count" so far?

Now when these folks take their MALE pony who was once a FEMALE into the FEMALE bathroom and then do MALE things then perhaps Y'all have a beef..

Oh, I remember Your avatar from that other thread...

Have a better day!

So what is your pony's name?

I am only teasing.

While I find it weird, I also agree with you. Most of us have something that others would find weird also.

This too shall pass?

It shows me that making up a 'higher' being and believing in it is part of human nature. If the bible had never been written, something else would have caught the attention of non-critical thinkers. There is an awful lot of them about.
To me it doesn't sound too different to religion. So why do people believe in an invisible sky master? its the same thing, only older.
This is good evidence to doubt religion, as it shows right here the susceptibility of the human mind.

Is there no option for this to be explored or are the people who claim they 'summon tulpas' just stupid as you guys are saying here?

Even if the tulpa can not be summoned and the person is inflicting a mental illness upon themselves... Then that surely is a phenomenon well worthy of investigation?

The slant which Vice has taken has influenced many minds on this subject already I see.

Here is the definition via Google

Tulpa (Tibetan: སྤྲུལ་པ, Wylie: sprul-pa; Sanskrit: निर्मित nirmita and निर्माण nirmāṇa; "to build" or "to construct") also translated as "magical emanation", "conjured thing" and "phantom" is a concept in mysticism of a being or object which is created through sheer spiritual or mental discipline alone.

Perhaps its more that it seems to be blokes summoning little girls "My Little Pony" tulpas.

I agree that those naughtily little ponies are really cute, I have even bought one for the little one but surely this is so on a par instead of using our minds for something 'higher'

Christ said "You can move mountains with your minds" I bet he never expected little ponies instead after 2000 years of his influence. Sorry I honestly can't stop giggling, I know I shouldn't.

spirit animals, demons summoned with a ouija board, Tulpas, ayuhuasca and peyote manifested green men, hat wearing shadow men, succubus-incubus, religious apparitions,

all products of hallucination, dementia, psychosis, wishful thinking?

Maybe, Maybe not....

I get the feeling that is exactly the approach Vice want you to take.

Always interested in these things due to a previous career, I have done a little research this afternoon, mainly on the personality disorder view point. Most things I read around did not mention the already laughable 'bronies'.

Instead I read around the psyche, alter egos, ancient/old 'legends' (might not be the right word) regarding 'summoning'/worshipping other parts of existence.

I just get the impression this topic has been given the 'new' ATS touch rather than the traditional approach.

If you were to go for the ancient approach would you not be looking at magic and the powers of the magician to summon whatever image they have in their mind, usually from looking at the ancient sigils designated to a spirit etc? This was the in thing with Soloman's seals etc. I appreciate the physical side the tulpas experience may well not work here but isn't this basically the same rabbit hole?

In old Scandinavian superstition a Tulpa is a projection of a person or event that precedes it.

Best example is hearing a door knock when no-one is there and a few minutes later someone really does knock. The modern equivalent of this of course is thinking you hear the doorbell, turns out you didn't but a few minutes later someone really is there.

''Was that my phone?'' nope. Being the latest version of this phenomenon. Or you might hear the sound of some event that is about to happen. In short, sounds of the future.

That's what I read a few years back was a 'Tulpa'

Sounds kind of plausible next to the pish these muppets are tilting at !

This is nothing new, People have used their minds to create imaginary beings since year dot. I mean what do you think Abraham did?

The pony thing is only using ancient Tibetan and Indian mysticism, the term tulpa is old, way way way older than my little pony. Tulpa is when you generate a being by a powerful concentration of thought or spirit.

Some say the soul is in fact just a tulpa...

Yes sounds good to me.

I'm interested in whether people believe these things or if they have made themselves mentally ill.

I'm tempted to try it myself but I know how malleable the mind is and I worry I may make myself mad.

What a strange topic.

A few decades ago they all would get padded cells and straight jackets, maybe a little old fashioned shock therapy if they didn't respond to the meds.

Oh...oh God...I just realised something. How long do you think it will be before someone brings a lawsuit on behalf of one of their imaginary friends?

And. What if the reverse happens? Sue a Tulpa and get paid in Tulpa Time and Tulpa Bucks?
