So you don't live in reality, is what I'm hearing.

Making 6 figures is trivial. If you're not doing so within 3 years out of college you're either bad at your job, failed to pick a lucrative career, are under employed like most of the country, or are in a low cost of living area.

Where did I say at 24? An appropriate education/skill base takes much longer than that.

21 years graduation age + "If you're not doing so within 3 years out of college you're either bad at your job, failed to pick a lucrative career, are under employed like most of the country, or are in a low cost of living area."

Well, 22 would be the graduation age so that would be 25, but as I said you need much more than a bachelors to land a job. It's not actually realistic to graduate any program worth a damn in 4 years either. 4 years is based around a concept of 120 credit hours (30/year, 15/semester, 5 classes), which is far too few to actually learn enough things of value, keeping with the HS diploma analogy, that's like taking the lowest tier classes you need to graduate.

Ummm...believe me...there is no comparison between Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton...Clinton sold her soul to the dollar and power...Bernie Sanders and I share the same idealistic dream...however...I'm studied enough that I realize what he proposes just won't work...that it will cause more harm than good...

Socialism never works on a large scale...humans are not altruistic and selfless enough to not end up being corrupted by money and power...
No amount of you or I wishing it were so will ever make it so...
While I like Bernie...I think he's deluded himself into thinking that...this time...he could pull it off...unfortunately the only thing he's pulling...is the wool over his eyes...

I wish with all I am...that such a world could be realized...it's our very natures that always get in the way...that wake me from that dream and force me to face reality...

I have no argument with you or any other for that matter...
I wish you all well...I wish that others felt as I do that prosperity and wealth are not found in all that glitters...but in shared moments when awe takes the breath away as profundity expresses itself in the smallest and greatest of detail...
However...when I express myself thus...this simplistic intent to bridge distance usually only serves to make you...
the reader... uncomfortable...

That's why I no longer share my thoughts in the Short Stories forum...
There's no point...it changes nothing...
I tried the best way I knew how...with every word linkage I could imagine...
If gaps can't be bridged in such a small community as this...then my friend it is the height of idealism to expect it might work on a nationwide scale

As Pogo once stated in the comic strip..."We have met the enemy...and he is us"...

A star on your post, for summing up life in a short sentence.

Upon rereading my comments I don't think I was being very clear. If one wants to make 6 figures it's rather trivial to do, I don't think most people have any interest in the fields that pay that well though.

What I've seen from talking to people, is that most people want to do a job that's interesting to them and that pays enough to be "middle class", not wealthy, not ultra wealthy, just enough that they can work, retire, and raise a family. Those are considerably different goals from wanting to be in the top 1% or even the top 10%.

The whole problem with our system is that while the top end is quite rewarding, the mid tier area that most people are aiming for isn't delivering in the way it should.

Unfortunately most people have deluded themselves into supporting the corrupt politicians, politicians that only have their own interests at heart and their interests have been bought by the companies willing to pay them tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars just to hear them blab an hour or two.

I dont like either of them but that doesnt seem like a very good criteria to choose. Just pick a homeless bum then. They are poor as dirt. Im sure they would do a great job. Or me. Vote for me, because I honestly would be a better candidate than Bernie or Hillary.

Yeah, trying to make Bernie look like a lying rich millionaire? Not going to work. Nice try though.

I didnt read the article but I would agree, trying to make Bernie look like a rich millionaire would be ridiculous.

Especially when you consider that he didnt start "earning" a steady paycheck until he was 40yo and that too was from government.

He's no hypocrite thats for sure. He's lived off the tax payers his entire life, a lifestyle which he endorses, promotes and hopes to expand if elected President.

So I guess to redeem himself (but not really, there would always be something else, right?) he should have opted out or refused to take the retirement plan?

Sanders, refuse tax payer money?

Mystik, I know you didnt mean that to be funny but it really is kind of laughable.

No, Bernie would never refuse someone else's money. Only a handful of politicians have done so, Ron Paul of-course being one of them.

But we're talking about two COMPLETELY different philosophies.

“It is immoral that someone spend so much time in Congress that they even should think about getting retirement benefits,” Paul said in a 1997 release on his House website.

“To expect those benefits to be paid by taxpayers at rates no citizen can ever hope to actually earn is even more unreasonable.”
