Dear Augie Sir. My friend flew in from Hawaii. I asked her to make her favorite Hawaiian dish and I will make the cocktails.

She is going to prepare Shoyu Chicken. Shoyu Chicken is marinated in soy sauce and brown sugar with garlic.
Here is a Google photo.
I was wondering if you have a cocktail idea?

You cannot go wrong by trying to build around an ingredient found in the region your food is based on. I realy like lychee in drinks as it adds a great flavor. You can do the Beijing Bellini:
    3 Ounces Prosecco
    1 Ounce lychee liqueur
    1 Lychee (from a can)

Place the lychee in a champagne flute. Add lychee liqueur and top with prosecco.

Or the Lotus Blossom:
    1 1/2 Ounces pear liqueur
    1 Ounce sake
    1/2 Ounces simple syrup
    3 Lychee
    1 Lime wedge
    1 Pear slice for garnish

Muddle lychee, lime and syrup in the bottom of a shaker. Fill half way with ice and add pear liqueur and sake. Shake until well chilled. Strain into a chilled coupe or martini glass and float the pear slice in the glass.

Ok thank you Augustus, I am going with your Lotus Blossom. I have everything in stock but the can of Lychee. I know where to buy Lychee.

Thank you!

Hi honey!

Hey, my mom was here today and she said that long, long ago she had a "Scarlett O'hara" in some Chicago place. She loved it, but has never found it on any menu or heard of it again.

Any ideas what it is?

EDIT: I see a recipe on Google - she doesn't quite get the "Google it!" thing......
anyway - do you have a fancy recipe for it???

The one I found says:
Southern Comfort
cranberry juice
lime juice (fresh squeezed)

She says her other fave drink is Long Island Iced Tea - what's your best recipe for that?
Please? I always thought it was just all boozes together with a splash of tea......

daughter says it's the "white liquors" or the "clear liquors"......????

I looked in one of my older cocktail books and it listed the following recipe:
    1 1⁄2 Ounces peach brandy
    1 1⁄2 Ounces Southern Comfort
    1 Ounce lime juice
    1 teaspoon grenadine

Fill a double rock or julep glass with crushed ice. Shake all ingredient over ice and the strain into glass. Don't give a damn.

You daughter is right on this one. It is all your clear liquors; 1 Ounce tequila, rum, vodka, gin and triple sec with an ounce of lemon juice. Add 4 ounces Coke and garnish with lime wedges.

One of my favorite drinks.
Dangerous though as I can't tell I'm drinking alcohol.

Summer/Iced Tea.

To be honest I have not had one since I was about 21 or 22 for pretty much the same reason you said.

No worries. I figured the cranberry was a newer addition since you do not see it in cocktail recipes pre-1980's or so.

The Sledgehammer:

    3/4 Ounce cognac
    3/4 Ounce medium rum
    3/4 Laird's applejack
    1 Dash Pernod or absinthe
1 12lb Sledgehammer for disciplinary purposes.

Stir all ingredient over ice until well chilled. Strain into a chilled coupe glass. Lightly tap husband's head with hammer.

Or vice versa.

Which I found the much more sinister and frightening prospect.

I don't have a picture because I haven't made it, but as a fish keeper, this appeals to me lol

It's called "The Fish Bowl"

INGREDIENTS
1/2 gallon gold fish bowl (or similar container)
1/2 cup nerds candy
5oz vodka
5oz Malibu
3oz Blue Curacao
6oz sweet and sour mix candy
16oz pineapple juice
16oz Sprite
3 slices each of lemon, orange and lime
4 gummy fish

INSTRUCTIONS
Sprinkle nerds on bottom to give a gravel effect
Fill bowl half way with ice
Add gummy fish
Fill remainder of bowl with ice
Mix all liquids together and pour into bowl
Place the slices on top

Serve with 18 inch straws, sit back and relax.

There was a bar in Manhattan called Bamboo Bernie's we used to go to when we were younger and dumber that served something similar to this in a fishbowl. They used to put a plastic whale in there as a 'garnish'. I got so hammered on this one night I sprayed everyone with the dry chemical fire extinguisher, including the bouncer.
