California Faces Challenges Enrolling Undocumented Children in Medi-Cal

The expansion will extend Medi-Cal coverage to about 170,000 undocumented immigrant children under age 19. About 115,000 undocumented children are currently enrolled in restricted Medi-Cal programs and 55,000 eligible children aren’t receiving coverage, the Sun writes.

The Medi-Cal expansion will help these undocumented children get preventive care, such as physicals and immunizations, mental health care, and vision care, Assemblywoman Cheryl Brown, D-San Bernardino, told the Sun.

Starting May 1, next month, thousands more illegal alien children will be enrolling in Medi-cal, a taxpayer funded program meant for poor Californians. Illegals should not be here in the first place, child or not, and they definitely shouldn't be getting access to programs from my tax money.
How can these progressive politicians here in CA justify this to their constituents? They have the "experts" say it will save money by reducing emergency room visits for routine care.

Offering Medi-Cal coverage to undocumented children is a good long-term investment for the state, experts say. It will bring down health care costs by reducing trips to the emergency room for routine care and help ease stress on community health centers, which often treat undocumented patients without reimbursement, experts told California Healthline in July.

Why not just crackdown on these illegals abusing our emergency room system in the first place. No that's not possibly an answer. The answer is give them freebies. In this next article you will see Assemblywoman Cheryl Brown, D-San Bernardino say that very thing. Telling her US Citizen constituents, the ones who voted her in, this is to help them out.
Group gets the word out: Undocumented children now eligible for health care

Those eligible for the expansion will receive preventive care, such as physicals and immunizations, mental health care, vision care, drug and alcohol services and others, said Assemblywoman Cheryl Brown, D-San Bernardino.

“California is the first state to push ahead with this important legislation. And I am proud to say that I was part of that legislation,” Brown said Wednesday.
The program will save more money than it costs because of the reduced numbers seeking uninsured emergency room care in California, she said.

Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how you view the situation, many are worried the illegals won't sign up. I guess they just keep abusing the emergency room policy at hospitals until they are granted amnesty and free healthcare.

Getting the word out may not be so easy, said Hugo Oliva, deputy consul with the Mexican Consulate’s San Bernardino office. Officials will have to overcome the distrust that makes some undocumented families reluctant to seek medical care, he said. For its part, the Mexican Consulate’s office in San Bernardino will be distributing information about these new benefits, said Oliva, who was also a speaker at the Molina event Wednesday.

The Mexican Consulate will be giving information to illegal Mexican citizens on how to get California benefits. Unbelievable.

It is my opinion this constant march toward a more progressive society will be its downfall. I for one owe an illegal alien nothing. I do kind of hope they do enroll, for when we finally have an administration that will enforce our immigration laws, they will be easy to find and deport. The Great California Exodus does exist and it is happening because of these never ending policies. People are leaving to states with less taxes and more jobs because of fewer regulation. The good honest taxpayers will leave the state and the progressives and illegals can sing kumbaya in cardboard boxes together.

I leave you with this video taken a month and a half ago at same Mexican Consulate in San Bernandino. A group of patriots going to protest Obama immigration policy to the same Hugo Oliva. They end up getting kicked out at the end, but they note the consulate is on Mexican Soil and proceed to simply say No, we are going to stay in Mexico Illegally. And while we're here give us Driver's Licenses and work permits. It'd be hilarious is it wasn't so sad.

Real Issue With Immigration

Summary:
The 3 biggest benefactor of illegal immigration are 3 powerful lobbying groups (Agriculture,Construction,Hospitality. ) .

They will lie and use distraction to get the public chasing their tail at solutions that will do nothing to fix the problem.

The immigration fix is simple yet is seldmon brought up or focused on by the DNC ,GOP, or the MSM. Simply fine each American company that hires an illegal 50K for every illegal. They stop hiring them and they stop coming, that simple.

The undocumented children eligible for healthcare. I say take care of them and send the Agriculture,Construction, and Hospitality industries the bill.

I agree, children should have healthcare. However, that doesn't mean average Joe should be the one to pay for it.

I just can't seem to get mad about this. I'm just glad kids that need health care are getting it. I understand that most people will fell short changed by the fact that this program is paid for using their tax dollars but if you think about it those poor kids had nothing to do with their parents smuggling them into North America except perhaps with the intention of getting them care.

I just can't make myself mad over this.

What else should no kid go without?
I mean they aren't supposed to be here, so what signal is CA sending to the rest of the world's poor?

Uh, o.k., yea I feel your pain; when I was working, paying fat taxes for this type government, I felt much the same way, but.......you, me, any other citizen non-progressives really don't have any say in this because the Progressive Liberal Elite Establishment that runs Cali and the US are probably permanently in charge and they believe in open borders, (or no borders) so that''s just the way its going to be.

You got a laugh outa me with: "How can these progressive politicians here in CA justify this to their constituents? ".

Yea, well "we" aren't the constituency! Their constituency is the fabulously wealthy in Silicon Valley who fund there campaigns with big bucks to polish their Progressive Liberal creds so they can brag at the tony cocktail parties and the Academy Awards parties, etc. The OTHER half of their constituency is a combination of wannabe rich "Social Justice Warriors", College Students who don't know better and of course...........undocumented aliens and the welfare vote farm.

The rest of us don't count and don't have a chance of ever having an effective voice.

Being a medically retired cop from Ca. My police retirement goes through The State. I was retired due to a broken neck/back in 2004. Since Feb. of 2014 I've had $1207/month extracted for "Affordable Healthcare" When I was on 7 RX meds. I had a $20.00 co-pay, now that I took control over My own health, I get more $$$ taken out.

I remember taking a "Juan Doe" (a drunk Mexican Nationalist) that was drunk in public (647(f) p.c. non-citable offense, so there is no court, no arrest, You usually just have to sit for 4 hours. Anyways this guy pissed off the Lt. and asked that I take Him to the County Jail and get Him "booked". Anyways He had fallen down before I even saw Him and when We get to the Jail He tells the nurse about the fall. The nurse won't accept Him into jail due to the injuries. I then had to take Him to the hospital to get "medically cleared for incarceration" Now this guy got a MRI that didn't show anything and then the Dr. says " I think He needs an EKG " I told Him that was enough, I was going to take Him to the County Line and re-County Him.
It took Me 6 weeks to get a MRI on My back and 7 for the neck.

I called PERS™ and was told "It'll all even out.." I then told Her.. "Don't tell Me, I can't take it with Me, right?"

That is when I started digging deeper to the WA$te all around, and I've noticed the deeper You dig the more it stinks, like an onion..

My thoughts here:

- if the system is at a point where it cannot take on 20k more children, then the problem isn't likely the children. Its probably pork laying around everywhere else. Not to mention the fact that Obamacare made healthcare costs increase, making it anything but affordable.
- if i were here illegally and my child were sick, the things I would do out of desperation to find a way to pay for treatment would cost the public far more than the cost of medical care. Call it "providing out of self defense".
- any anger directed at illegal immigrants is misplaced. They are doing what we all would do: trying to make a better life for their family. if you deny this, don't bother. I won't believe you.
- im not saying im for this program. only that its saddening that people would actually put the effort forth to speak out against it, rather than speaking out against the myriad other wastes that make it economically unwise to do this.

I don't agree with a state using taxpayer funds on causes that run contrary to Federal Immigration law. Sam with the sanctuary cities out here. We have an illegal immigration problem aided by politicians and the ones who are supposed to be here get boned.

-Its not 20k but another 55k if you believe their numbers, but who counting right?

-Yeah I get it. Kids that grow up iin the sticks don't hit the doctor every time they get sick or hurt. Pretty much just emergencies. They seem fine to me.

-I don't know, but I think its a pretty important issue. Most populous state in the nation basically inviting people to come illegally with the offer of handouts. We have enough problems to deal with, why invite more into our mess illegally?

Am I the only one that takes issue of the fact that the Mexican Consulate is helping out here?
It is my understanding that office is to help out Mexican citizens while travelling or living abroad legally. This whole thing stinks to high heaven. I guess people really do want a North America Union?

The irony is that most of them come from countries with public health care, meaning they get it for "free" there and their countries are "more enlightened" than ours.

So maybe we should help them out and send them home?

Look, this is a socialist program.

I thought the underlying "feel good" principle behind such things is that everyone puts in.

Illegals do not put in, so why again are they taking out? It basically means the system is being strained and the tax payers are adding more dead weight to it and being asked to shoulder the burden in the name of compassion.

I get what you are saying, I really do, but what you are setting up is an unavoidable problem of simple math. It's a system of diminishing returns. More people taking out than are putting in leaving less available for all in the end causing an eventual cycle leading to collapse of the system.
