I've said this before on ATS, but it seems like this might be something on the fringes of your interest.

The Alvin Maker series by Orson Scott Card of Enders Game notoriety.
Full of alternative American history.

I used to work in the book store, and excuse this, but MANY older women would come in and ask where the (I shouldn't write this, excuse me T&C's.) "Panty Creamer Section" was.

I felt violated every time I heard it, and I feel like I've violated everyone here by repeating it.
