Socialism

" Socialism shares similarities to communism but to a lesser extreme. As in communism, equality is the main focus. Instead of the workers owning the facilities and tools for production, workers are paid and allowed to spend their wages as they choose, while the governing body owns and operates the means of production for the benefit of the working class. Each worker is provided with necessities so he is able to produce without worry for his basic needs. Still, advancement and production are limited because there is no incentive to achieve more. Without motivation to succeed, such as the ability to own an income-producing business, workers' human instincts prohibit drive and desire that is produced through such incentives. ?

The Key word in that Paragraph is " shares " .

"
" while the governing body owns and operates the means of production for the benefit of the working class "

Since when has Any Centralized Government Actually Ran a Business or Industry for Profit ? Hmm...

I don't need or want Government involvement in my life.

I don't want a nanny state to take care of me.

Socialism is for children who are afraid of personal responsibility.

Time to grow up.

The USSR was comprised of COMMUNIST states, not socialist.

Try again.

You guys will do anything to dissociate your ideology from anything that isn't pretty Scandanavian socialism. Soviet, Latin American, East Asian--that stuff isn't "socialism", that's big bad communism (although they all call themselves socialists).

It's all Norway and Sweden to you.

People don't like capitalism in its purest form bocause it leads to monopolies, socialism is a monopoly where all means of production is controlled by the state, you get free things like universal health care, which means you get taxed 40% of your earnings to pay for it, they also say you will get taking cared for when you are old, and part of your overtaxation is for it, that's a ponzi scheme, you don't pay for your old future you pay for current old people care while the state hopes there will young working people to pay for your care when you are old, lies.

All are equal, no one deserve more than anyone, that sounds pretty, it also means you will never achieve anything with your effort.

In capitalism at least there is a chance to compete, in true socialism you are a cog of the all controlling state, competition is important, it leads to development, innovation, who competes against the state in socialism?

If at least the governments were efficient, the goal of a private company is to produce capital, the goal of a politician is to become popular to get elected, thats what's drive a socialism state, the desire of the ruling class to control the government, not the people.

And in the end socialism fails when they run out of others people money

Why is it disliked on ATS ? One of the reasons is that many members believe that socialism is communism, thanks in large part to the Cold War.

Which is interesting, because from my understanding, Socialism and Communism are not the same...

But Socialism is the favorite economic system of a Communist country. Any other system would not work under that kind of government oppression.
They go hand-in-hand.

Socialism only dictates that people will not prosper in relations to poverty. It DOESN'T hinder human growth, AT ALL. Look at Russia FFS. Everyone still uses the COMMUNIST BUILT USSR rockets to get into space.

Seems like we weren't hindered by the USSR communist approach.

No, in communism, things aren't owned by individuals. The State/Government owns EVERYTHING.

50 million dead Russians later, no. Not hindered at all.

When you kill all the people hindering you, you'll run into a lot less resistance.

The world greatly benefit from Comunist, it united the west and allowed us to develop to face an enemy, ussr also develop weaponds and technologies to face the west, the Comunist did not benefit from communism, they live like #, no enoght food, no freedom, getting killed for thinking or cuestioing the leaders, forced labor, not allowed to free transit...

What's not to like of the ussr?

It's always easier to be equally poor, when you concern is to eat three times a day you don't have energy to question anything, that's the end game of the communist (only mentioning them as you brought ussr)

Because when pushed past moderate socialism (building roads e.g.) to socio-economic rigging (like obamacare, or extreme taxation and welfare), it becomes what is basically state sponsored theft. It also lends itself to the most authoritarian systems of modern government.

It's most ardent critics put forward arguments which turned out to be true. Socialism's effects on the people, the markets, and the environment, turned out to be disasterous. It's history is filled with atrocity, poverty, and the suppression of human rights.
