Where did you get that number because doing a quick search yeilds another.

From the source article:

As of 2015, there were about 20,275 Border Patrol agents employed with the agency, according to Customs and Border Protection’s year-end statistics.

And the current numbers do show a drop in available agents.

Why wouldn't they support Trump?

If he follows through on the wall promise it would grow their organization to where it is second to homeland security.

Imagine the money and manpower that would be dumped into it. Their budget would be at least twice that of NASA.

Except that their organization is a part of Homeland Security all ready and their budget is doled out by DHS. In a way, that idea adds clarity to the INS union's decision to endorse Trump. Is this in fact a DHS endorsement by extension?

Great so DHS becomes even more powerful with more people and funding. Bigger maybe better government. DHS has been militarizing the police for a while now what can possibly go wrong.

And those ripples in the pond are exactly why I posted this topic.

I am not at all enthusiastic about having a huge militarized agency that is trained to keep people behind walls.

I wonder why the drop is? Probably budget issues but like anything else in gov't those numbers will fluctuate. I'm sure they're taking applications though. If my friend can become one so can almost anyone. He wanted to be a NY cop but failed some kind of test but made it to the border patrol! He's a good guy, no worries.

Trump loves the NSA and would expand the limits of Big Brother till we have no privacy rights left. So, if you support Trump you support the NSA. I didn't realize so many ATS'ers loved that Big Brother is not only watching them but saving their data too.

What happened to this place?

To be honest, it doesn't say much about the Union to me if they're endorsing Trump.

Why not? People are fed up, they are tired of being taken advantage of by predatory capitalists while watching their hard earned retirement funds go down the drain and taxes used to pay for debt to foreign nationals they didn't even create. And all the while, the financial rapists are paying themselves more, and more, and more.... The government, is just as predatory since it allows the treasons of dual citizenship in government, a fascist corporatocracy with a pay to play (non)ethic, as well as allowing a foreign national bank to control monetary policy to benefit itself on the backs of the people is just too much. And then they set up this dystopian society so that everyone is so busy picking sides, they don't see they are playing right into the con. Your dollar in purchasing power is worth 3 cents now, compared to 1912, prior to the FED screwing everyone. Don't you just love that FED provided inflation ;-)

Funny thing is, Trump is on neither the Depublican or the Remocrat sides, he's a nationalist FFS's. All the non-thinkers are fighting against him and anyone who supports him, violently? Why? Because he says a few stupid things from time to time? So what, like none of us every did that, right? So all the "tolerant" PC SJW's and the rest of the idiots out there are showing their true colours, that they are not tolerant of anyone or anything, but their own misguided and government provided ideologies. And those came from people like, Lenin and Marx and Alinsky. I realize people hate finding out that their idea of reality or the social construct is wrong and they fight tooth and nail to make their wrong ideas right (because nobody seems to want to be wrong), but people have to get a grip and get over themselves, move the "f" on.

Trump is causing a well needed polarization. If you want things to get better, let him have a go, it can't be worse than any of the other crap that is playing in political theatre. And anyway, if it all goes sideways, we get to rebuild a better world sooner, rather than later.

Cheers - Dave

Is that supposed to be an insult LOL. He's a guy, not great guy, not a bad guy, just a guy. Could he do great things for the country, maybe? Could he do terrible things, unlikely (checks and balances, remember)? We all can do good and bad. Should people respect his and others rights to free speech and assembly without being harassed and threatened, your damn right!

After 40 years in business and three continents I am still waiting to see empirical evidence of a tolerant liberal.

Cheers - Dave

"tired of being taken advantage of by predatory capitalists"

"financial rapists"

"predatory"

"fascist corporatocracy"

"dystopian society "

Insult? Oh yes, and it's funny you allow him to insult anyone and everyone under the guise of not being PC but how dare anyone insult him!

"It might not be PC", until he uttered those words I never read about anyone bringing it up on ATS but once he said it all sudden conservatives on ATS went to war with PC while on the pc.

He's a great guy? Jesus! Says who? Trump and the people he pays? It's funny you don't think he could cause any harm to the country because of checks and balances but I bet you're the first to poop all over Obama while blaming him for everything, amirite?

Obama is a puppet in a long line of puppets, I am surprised he can stand since he has no spine and speaking, well, there are almost always ventriloquists for puppets. I'm not saying that Trump would not become a puppet, once read the riot act by the status quo he might find out he's bitten off more than he can chew, since he would be battling the status quo. However, he has taken a different path, that of a nationalist and there's something to be said for simply doing that, he is not operating within the "establishment" rules and I think that's a good thing.

And for the record, I have a problem with ignorance and people that don't do the research, who just listen to others and get dragged along due to the social peer pressure. You know, the 87% out there that are incapable of critical thinking, zombies ;-) I have nothing bad to say about Bernie other than he's a socialist, which is an ideology based on communism which never works out well, but I am sure he's a good guy, I would never disrupt or interfere with his meetings. Hillary I can't stand, but then I have done a lot of research on that thing, regardless, again I would not disrupt or interfere. But seriously, you can't stick a rose in her ass and call it a vase, she is a seriously tainted monster imho. We all have our opinions, the point is that I am tolerant and I am neither a conservative (R) or a liberal (D), I'm just a guy who looks at actions, ethics and principles and of course, does the research so I can come to my own conclusions. I follow no one, lol.

BTW, what I said was "He's a guy, not great guy, not a bad guy, just a guy." Where did I say he was a great guy? Or are you just making that up?

Most of the unions have Hillary in their back pocket that's where most of her support comes from!

The border patrol Union might understand the border problem a lot better than we do.

Unions go where the money is. Whomever promises to dump the most money into the border patrol gets the nod because more money means more agents means more dues paying members. Of course lets just forget the fact that on the border their are now 21,000 agents compared to 1,500 during WW2, At first we had none, then in the early 1900s their were 75 part time. During prohibition 450, 1,500 during WW2, after WW2 it was back down to between 500 and 800 until the 1980s when we get back to a over a 1000 again hitting up to 3000. The 1990s saw the us go from 4000 to 8000. Then after 911 10,000. Then we get another jump in at the end of Bush to 17,000. Then under Obama it jumping up to 21,000. In WW2 we felt secure with 1,500 border agents and in 2016 we are complaining about 21,000. Not to mention more than half of all illegals come in on visas and stay meaning that the Border Patrol never has chance at them. $!2.5 Billion a year. Trump would try and spend at least twice as much a year just to do maintenance on a wall. The Border Patrol Unions would be rolling dough.

It could be that democrats have been ignoring the dangerous border situation so long that endorsing a republican seemed like the best move to make...and it's hard to argue with that.

I'm no trump supporter, but he's right on illegal immigration and border issues.
