Attorney Generals from 19 states are pursuing a case against Exxon and other fossil fuel burning companies who they claim mislead the public and shareholders about the dangers of fossil fuel burning and what they knew about the dangers of it.

A rare coalition of 19 state attorneys general plus the attorney general from the U.S. Virgin Islands announced Tuesday they are joining forces to pursue investigations related to global warming, including looking into whether companies such as Exxon Mobil misled shareholders and the public about the risks of climate change. The new coalition signals an escalation in the battle against companies that have played a central role in funding climate denying think tanks to help sow public confusion over the reality of human-caused global warming.

At a news conference in Manhattan, the attorneys general of Vermont, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, Virginia, the Virgin Islands and New York were joined by former vice president Al Gore at the outset of a daylong conference on climate change. Other attorneys general are also involved in the coalition, including those of California, Washington, D.C., Iowa, Illinois, Maine, Minnesota, New Mexico, Oregon and Washington.

I think they know about the dangers of it and already have a plan. Remember the thread about the Economist magazine cover with the cryptic symbols and images?
www.abovetopsecret.com...

One of those images is a woman with a Bird's Nest with eggs in it for a hat, and the woman is facing a rocket as it takes off. In a conspiracy twist, I think it is symbolic of the elites and their young/unborn escaping from Earth. It makes sense with the great push for Mars and Space exploration all of a sudden. Anyway, sorry to topic drift in my own thread but I think its all related. What does ATS think?

Some lawyers are going to get rich from this one..

Years and years of legal fees.
Proof that global warming even exists. (In court)
Proof that ExxonMobil knew it was dangerous.
The list of evidence needed to convict will be extensive.
Good luck with that.

It's pretty open and shut actually because of the expose done on Exxon exposing this very behavior, but hey continue to bury your head in the sand.

Exxon's Own Research Confirmed Fossil Fuels' Role in Global Warming Decades Ago
What Exxon knew about the Earth's melting Arctic

They caused public confusion covering corporate greed to sow the skies with carbon. Its our fault. We have to drive, we have to have gas, we have to have heat and light our homes.

Whaddyagonnado, go dark and walk to work?

Ok sure.
Oj Simpson was pretty open and shut too. How did that work out?
I'm just saying this is a long way from ever seeing a courtroom.

Maybe so, but it is progress that needs to be made. If Exxon is internally acknowledging climate change but funding think tanks to deny it, that is a SERIOUS problem. Especially considering the dire circumstances surrounding what unchecked climate alteration can do to our weather, sea levels, living conditions, and society in general.

Yes, it's a tough call to make........In my opinion, we're accelerating climactic issues with fossil fuel burning yet at the same time we're totally dependent on fossil fuels; it's the backbone of our modern economy. More countries want in on the action such as China and India and they are burning fossil fuels at an unprecedented rate.

As the environment changes so will the economic balance due to the shifting or even loss of resources and it will lead to conflict between governments. On the other hand if there is immediate political change to impede environmental catastrophe then economies could collapse and it will lead to another type of conflict between people as they fight for resources. My opinion.

So when are they going to prosecute the scientists for lying to us about Global Warming being a threat. That volcano eruption in Alaska put more CO2 into the atmosphere than anything man has done.

Yea. We've really wedged ourselves tightly between a rock and a hard place by letting this situation go on for so long without doing anything about it.

Which scientists and which lies did they say?

Got any proof for that claim about the volcano? Like the total amount of carbon spewed into the air by said volcano compared against the total amount dumped into the air by humans?

Will liberals ever admit to being wrong about nuclear energy?

It is of continuing fascination that atomic energy was so reviled by the 60s radicals yet has proven to be, by far, the cleanest form of energy our species has ever created...

Another reason we are so dependent on fuel is the food industry. Most of the product on the local grocery store shelf is from a long ways away, produced by corporate farms that use a lot of petrol to plant, grow and harvest produce, shipping it halfway around the world to us by road and rail. If we grew our food locally or bought it from local farms, that would reduce the carbon chain. Heres a clip from the movie Food, Inc. that touches on it…

Thanks! fuel is used in just about every aspect of our economy from the foods we eat, clothes we wear, to electronics, and the tools we use.

What is this? This looks like a question and not a series of links to external sources. What happened backing up the claims you made earlier like I asked for? OH WAIT! You were talking out your ass and just trying to obfuscate the discussion, and now you are trying to do it again by deflecting with a silly question.

It's been...oh...six years since I did this thread on ATS:

Major Global Warming Denial Movement Linked Directly to ExxonMobil: PROOF

Ever since that time, been trying to draw attention to this very obvious but very ignored issue; one of the few "real" conspiracies on ATS that has actual evidence and papertrail proof behind it, instead of wild speculation and paranoid innuendo.

And although there are certainly those here who do get it, all this time it's been overshadowed by the tinfoil fantasies of deniers who prefer to believe their tax dollars are under secret attack by misanthropic scientists and evil environmentalists. They of course get this information from blogs and right-wing shills whose funding can easily be traced right back to Exxon and similar meddling special interests.

In a few years though, after this long-awaited prosecution - the whole scenario will play out exactly like the Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement in the 90s. It will be self-evident, common knowledge that corporations tried to manipulate this important scientific issue because their profits are more important than public health or your children's future.

All the deniers will just pretend they never fell for the strategy outlined in the memo above because that's what they do: constantly move the goalposts and revise the narrative to fit their egos, not the facts.
