"WASHINGTON — The criminal probe into why former Bill Clinton aide Sandy Berger (search) illegally sneaked top-secret documents out of the National Archives (search) — possibly in his socks — has heated up and is now before a federal grand jury, The Post has learned.

[FOX News has confirmed the grand jury investigation.]

The "Socks Docs" probe forced Berger, who was President Clinton's national security adviser, to step down as Democrat John Kerry's top foreign-policy adviser last summer.

"It may have been off the front pages, but the investigation has been active," said a source with knowledge of the probe.

"[Berger] has been interviewed several times by federal agents — FBI and prosecutors."

Berger admits removing 40 to 50 top-secret documents from the archives, but claims it was an "honest mistake" made while he vetted documents for the 9/11 commission's probe into the Twin Towers attacks."

What is Sandy Berger hiding? This man is not stupid, what was so damaging in these papers that he would risk PRISON?

Did Clinton make a secret "deal" with Osama? Did he take a bribe to look the other way?

Look into what Scott Ritter was saying at the time, if what he is saying is true, there might have been alot to cover....

"Well, again, we have a problem with this-with the United States. On April 6th, the President of the United States submitted a report to Congress in which he clearly states that a diplomatic solution had been tried. We have a memorandum of understanding, and the marker's on the table now. Iraq must be held accountable for the agreement that they have signed with the Secretary-General and which was endorsed by the Security Council in its Resolution 1154. If Iraq didn't, there would be the severest consequences. You had this statement on the one hand, but on the other hand, this administration's saying, wait a minute, we can't go forward with aggressive inspections because they will lead to a confrontation with Iraq, but let's understand the confrontation is because Iraq will not comply with the law passed by the Security Council. So we weren't allowed to do our job out of fear of a confrontation in which the United States would not be able to muster the required support of the Security Council to respond effectively or to respond in a manner which they had said they would respond in Resolution 1154. Clinton did so much against our country besides making us look like fools --by committing adultery. he also took out the "starwars mission" president reagan put that in to protect our country. clinton shut down so many military bases and made 1000's of our men retire or quit. which is why we have no military left.

How does 'Sandy' Berger equate an "honest mistake" with placing some of those NSA Archived documents in his socks so as to take them out without anyone knowing or seeing that he had such documents? I guess it was an "honest mistake" when some of those very documents turned up to be destroyed and irreplacable? "Honest mistake" my butt.

He is in deep kimchi......."honest mistake" or not.

What's apparent is that he know it, hence his PR move.

It will be intresting to see what actually happens to him. If the US attorney gets him to trial the "secret" papers must be entered into court. Most likely there will be a "deal" to keep this OFF THE RECORD. Or Sandy will be cat food somewhere.
