This article from the NYTimes seems to indicate that the US Submarine San Francisco suffered far greater injuries than have previously been reported. It also points to e-mails between Navy officials that indicate that the submarine was travelling at high speed when it collided with *whatever* it hit:
www.nytimes.com...

This story leaves us with the impression of a major impact with something... yet the sub kept moving forward at 4 knots after the collision (after it hit an undersea mountain?). My guess is that a Chinese sub (or, even, an USO) was involved.

PS: I know there is already an ATSNN thread on the sub crash... but I felt that the issue of misleading reports from the Navy was worthy of a new thread beyond the one that covered the initial accident. If the mods feel differently they can delete this thread.
