And thanks for the list. Very helpful.

I was assigned to a Wild Weasel squadron early in my career... YGBSM and VSF are both on unit patches. As a maintainer, ours was BOHICA...

Great post Zaph. Thanks for the support.
I've spotted a Cessna 172 that takes off from a certain AFB that I've mentioned before quite often. When I looked up its tail number via the FAA website, I came back with this:
**th MSG/SVRA a*** c*** (with your knowledge, I'm hoping you'll know which AFB I'm talking about.
I'm censoring things because I don't want them to hide this flights tail number, it does alot of very "strange" ops...could this be an observation plane for test flights of new weapons and equipment?)
PS: It's a government plane, its registered to them legitimately
My question is this:
MSG=Mission Support Group
What's that acronym?

I'm not 100% positive, but I think it's the System Verification Review Agency. They're kind of like the OT&E office. I may be wrong though.

That would make sense with the AFB they're flying out of. Thank you.

Good list got a lot on there.

AGL - Above ground level
ASL - Above sea level
AOA - Angle of attack
MACH - Speed of sound
CAS - Calibrated airspeed
TAS - True airspeed
IAS - Indicated airspeed

And ah a few more lol I don't even know all of these...

Few more military ones...
IR - Infrared
IRST - Infrared search and track
RWR - Radar warning receiver
IFF - Identification friend or foe
MAWS - Missile approach warning system
ECCM - Electronic counter counter measures
ROE - Rules of engagement

And this list is crazy...

Almost forgot the best one.
HUD - Head up display

In our squadron things were either TARFU or FUBAHR.

MAC is now known as AMC or Air Mobility Command (at least in the US of A), and typically referred to as MAF--Mobility Air Forces.
AAA is also referred to as ADA many times these days--Air Defense Artillery

Love this list, thanks for helping translate!

HOTAS: Hands On Throttle And Stick.
It's pronounced HO-TAS, not HOT-ASS.
