This hypothetical came from a discussion on another thread...just a Conservative and a Liberal ATS member having some fun and attempting to find some common ground (however improbable that may be these days).

The title presupposes Trump (P) & Sanders (VP)...because, well...it's MY thread

Consider it the ULTIMATE anti-establishment ticket...and, yes, I know it will never happen...but just imagine...

What would be the Pros and Cons?
Would this unite their support...or would it destroy their support?
Suspend reality...and please share your thoughts.

I'd be down with that. There would have to be some public concessions/agreements before it happened. I thought a Sanders/Paul Ticket would have been better though.

I think you can have some social programs and have a smaller government at the same time. It's called re-directing tax revenue from one thing to another. Cut a few programs here and add another one there. Certainly doable. Although, I still have huge reservations on Trump as being presidential, and wonder if he's as much of an outsider as he claims, given his billionaire status and close friendship with the Clintons and the New York establishement players.

The ultimate EFF YOU to the establishment!!

I think both their supporters would unite behind them, and sanders would temper trumps firebrand style a little I think.

I am game!!

YES! But as co-presidents, and referred to as Sanders/Trump. Because S comes before T.

Nice thread. I'm all in.

That's why I said "co-presidents", and not P/VP -

a real team, who would hammer out the differences privately and then submit to Congress what they have decided they want to do.

The BIG MONEY Backers like Soros and Singer would probably activate an army against them.

If this happened it would be the signaling of Sanders betraying everything he has ever stood for.

Is that the general feeling among Sanders supporters?

I don't agree. It would present a united anti-status-quo movement. Trump has already spoken about trade pacts being bad, and there is actually much common ground between them. If a .1%er teamed up with a Democratic Socialist - wow!!!

Did you see the thread about "the real Gordon Gekko" endorses Bernie?

I can see this actually making the Washington establishment Dems and Repubs joining forces against them.

Not for me - and I have a sign in my yard.
It would definitely not be selling out - neither of them is trying to buy the other. Trump is self-financing, and Bernie has grassroots contributors. Bernie wouldn't accept any money from Trump, ever. But being invited aboard is an entirely separate thing. I think they would respect one another and find a middle ground that works for EVERYBODY.

It would be awesome.

I'm sorry Buzzy, but there is absolutely nothing redeemable about Trump and Sanders attaching his name to him lowers Sanders by comparison. Sanders is about working together to fix the system. Trump is about bullying people until he gets his way. Sanders cares about race relations. Trump could give two #s about it.

Both candidates being anti-establishment candidates doesn't make them any less like oil and water together. Yuck. Trump is a narcissist. He only cares about whatever agenda can make him look better. He doesn't care about what he has to do to get it and he DAMN well doesn't care about your or I. I've been saying this since I first learned about who he was in the #ing 90's. The idea of voting for that walking pile of egotistical nothing is just the most vile thing I could ever consider.

I could see them blowing Hillary away...and changing the entire face of congress for decades.
I have no idea how anti-establishment republicans would feel about this...but I'm warming a little to the idea.

Everything?

Sanders was a very vocal opponenet of NAFTA and even filibustered the bill.

Sanders also reconized that unchecked illegal immigration is lowering wages and job opportunities for the working class.

The Congress can gang up them all they want - but the fact will be that the proposals offered up satisfy BOTH sides, so neither of them has any reason to read Green Eggs and Ham from the Senate floor in order to force a government shutdown.

That's the general feeling among me and my opinion because I am my own person who forms his own opinions.

See my above post.
I think Donald's "stage presence" is more an act than reality. And for him to team up with Bernie means he would LISTEN to Bernie. Trump has nothing to lose by working with Sanders. He seems, underneath it all, to be able to separate himself politically from reality-TV personality and be actually serious.

Goddamn right its an act! It's an act to inflate his already too large ego. There is nothing you can say or that Trump could do to make me EVER trust him as a serious political persona. He just screams "me, myself, and only me". Sanders and Trump are the most incompatible thing I could ever think of. Sanders actually CARES about the people. Trump just wants to get elected to satisfy his ego.

"Politics make strange bedfellows"...there's a reason that adage has been around so long.
