The problem is that I do not trust the government to run those services in a way that makes them worthwhile. I see the issues with the VA, for example. If the government cannot run even small scale health care for our veterans in a trustworthy and competent manner, and the so called reform does not, in fact, include accountability for any of the officials involved in the scandals ... what good is it, and by what right do I have to expect that the same system implemented on the scale of a nation of 350million would do ANY better on an order of many magnitudes greater?

And I have worked in the heart of a corrupt, crumbling bureaucratic inner city public school system that is thoroughly socialized as it is and seen children come through my classroom who can't read because they were passed up the ladder by teachers who simply did not want to deal with their crap for another year. I hear about my own sisters' struggles with Common Core, and I know my son is worth any struggle to get him out of that system as long as I can do it. I actually want him to be educated, not simply indoctrinated.

And I think if it was spent wiser, we'd be taxed LESS and get MORE for what we pay...

The answer isn't to tax MORE, but to spend BETTER.

It also isn't automatically CUT spending, but reallocate and re-prioritize spending to maximum benefit of the people.

This is the main argument I think most people would make who are angry about taxes.

We have roads, bridges, sewer, and water, crumbling all over the country. We should have been making modest efforts to repair all of this years ago, but instead the money gets allocated to things that enrich the lives of very few people and get politicians campaign contributions.

So what's our cure? The problems you describe... Seem very deeply rooted in our society. I realize there are those that are against democratic socialism and the like.. But what will fix things ? What's a realistic, on the table idea that can be voted for and processed?

Convention of states is the only answer I have.

Right.

I just happen to blame the rich corrupt corporations, elite, and such - Not the system itself.

Capitalism, socialism, whatever - Work just fine when the people at the top are honest and competent.

So, who do we expect to be honest - Corporations, or the government?

I vote for regulating them both.

You understand that your threads of late have been contradictory, yes?

You write a big thread about how the only way for us to all get along again is for there to be much less government in our lives, but now here you are advocating for far more of it.

Democratic socialism IS the very definition of BIG, MEDDLESOME government that must compel all to go along with one way of doing things - education, health care, etc.

You can't have it both ways. Either we all get along again and learn to be responsible for ourselves OR we have these big government nanny states that compel all to get along for the "greater good."

The government and corporations are both already regulated. Hasn't been working. No more corporate lobby, no more endless terms, and time to start prosecuting political corruption. After that we can discuss taxation and if it's fair. It's not right now. If lobbying and cronyism is going to rule politics let them pay for everything. Leave my money, which apparently buys me nothing when taxed, stay in my wallet.

Yes, this is meant to be capitalized so all those capitalists out there might turn their heads!

I DO NOT CARE ABOUT MONEY.

I don't want more for myself, and I sure as hell don't care if you think you're hard done by when taxes are used to ensure an overall amount of quality of life for others.

You see - It seems every time there's an argument about whether scandinavic and european countries are better than the USA - Some sheep pops in and says " WE HAVE MORE COINZ WE R BET-UR" and I literally could not give two flying f***ks about that.

Pollution and sustainability
Happiness and success
Purchasing power
Consumer Price Index
Safety index/Crime
Incarceration rates
Overall health

THESE are the issues I care about! Try to stay on topic when other countries are called the best in the world! It does not have to do with how much gasoline costs that day, or that a gallon of milk might be 10 dollars - they are still happier! Stop being so materialistic and narrow-minded.

And fun fact - Switzerland kicks our asses at number of millionaires per capita - So, want the highest chance be a millionaire? Emulate Switzerland.

Being the richest nation in the world - We should actually do better than Switzerland with millionaires, crime, pollution, etc.

But the conservatives don't seem to care!

WE HAZ MOAR MONAYYY

Is an all too common reply with when talking about quality of life standards.

This is between mud-pit and rant but whatever.

Hope everyone has a good weekend!!

Well; I was going to say "I wish I could be like that" but after reading your post Im not quite as confident to say that now than I was before I read it.

To funny.

That's because Switzerland is where the rest of the world goes to stash their money from SOCIALISTS.

LOL.

I know it's ironic.
