High over Alaska last summer, the Pentagon experimented with new, secret prototypes: Micro-drones that can be launched from the flare dispensers of moving F-16s and F/A-18 fighter jets. Canisters containing the tiny aircraft descended from the jets on parachutes before breaking open, allowing wings on each drone to swing out and catch the wind. Inch-wide propellers on the back provided propulsion as they found one another and created a swarm.

Well now. It seems the Pentagon has been up to mischief!

The capability to launch drones via flare dispensers is pretty impressive. What makes it more so is that they then swarmed automatically.

mmmm.

USAF wants Zombies.

Seems to me there was a Navy program very, very similar to this several years back, but it got quiet.

I believe I am the one that posted it under the title of "ZOMBIE! ZOMBIE! ZOMBIE!" not too long ago.

www.abovetopsecret.com...

It didn't get quiet. Just some time between press releases.

I meant specifically from flare dispensers, but the LOCUSTs are similar, too.

I've not seen anything like the flare dispensers for the Navy.

Just the Locusts by the ONR. They were firing them out the back of transports and whatnot.

I'm more surprised to see SCO revealed in this much detail honestly.

I found this quote to be interesting:

The belief, Roper said, is that U.S. troops are bright enough to find new ways to use existing weapons.

Really? Really! Ya think?

It took a super-duper nerd who caught the eye of the SECDEF to remind the DOD that US troops are not just automatons that follow orders.

When I think about the creativity and inventiveness of our troops, the first thing that comes to mind is the "Hillbilly Armor" our guys and gals designed and implemented in Iraq when their HumVees kept getting blow up by IEDs.

Sometimes these folks just can't wait for the DOD to do a billion dollar's worth of research to come up with something they can Macgyver together in a few hours.

Interesting, ain't it?

I almost wonder if they are going to do something in the South China Sea and wanted the heads up to be made so as to intimidate without sparking something too big.

Its a game of go.

There's something very big happening in the go world.

That's all I'm saying.

An ancient Chinese game, two players, goal is to surround more territory than your adversary. That in itself is rather interesting and symbolic.

What's big in the Go world? The champion is going to go up against AI (from Google) tomorrow. That adds a layer of intrigue.

Is that a black aircraft in the forefront there?

Also I wondered what relation the discs were, but I've since got the GO board game reference.

Interesting... I shall be watching events over the next few days.
