I just think ad-blocking in general is unethical and overly-paranoid.

On the contrary , it's a time honored tradition

So how do you make money from us who have reached the no ad threshold ?

Is the idea that we're creating worthy content, so we're rewarded with no ads while others who come to view our worthy content but haven't reached the threshold are effectively paying for us to create our worthy content ad free ?

Why do I have to unblock my adblock if I don't see ads

So in closing, yes, I agree with your initial premise; ATS is being held hostage by the very people who created the problem in the first place and further being asked to be financially responsible for fixing a problem they (ATS) did not create. At the center of the issue is the one (and only) line of defense the user community has...to block ads (not just on ATS, but everywhere). So in essence, the advertisers are using the users against the very websites they support in an effort to force users to 'drop their shields' as it were. Believe me, I really do get it...it's just a pretty crummy underhanded tactic from the marketing community IMHO.

star, you are a super star

How is that a "line of defense?" No ads are attacking you.

Or, in some stores, like target, for example, i'll be walking down the razor isle, and a demo box will detect my motion, and start spinning a wheel, to demonstrate how flexible the head of Gillette's new razor is. Or i'll be in the video game section, and the goddamn skylanders display will see me, and start making noises, or in the lego isle, demo boxes with lights and sounds start going absolutely mental when you get close..

Yeah, feels like the internet without adblock.

As has been said several times, throughout the years and several ways in this thread, throughout any given month, less than 10% of our traffic is from logged-in members. At best, 10% of those would pay some kind of annual amount. At that rate, it doesn't even equal our hosting costs.

Good news
. I stated my price, I will wait for your. It's a pleasure doing business directly with you and not with the advertiser.

Edit: About the fact that you work on" user can pay to avoid adds".

I fear for the future of independent thought online.

Because the person you're responding to doesn't want to be bombarded with adverts?

Jesus Bill, are you TRYING to insult and alienate your user-base?

Adhere to the T and C since you signed up, or Post more.
Why are you trying to negotiate?

The problem is. If every member who logged in today paid that annual price, it doesn't even equal the annual hosting costs (which have been cut-back as compared to two years ago).

We have three people, myself included, who depend on the income from ATS to keep things moving in a forward direction as well as running properly.

and it's been a silly part of the T&C that people have ignored for as long as it's been there.

The unwritten rule was "we know you're gonna use them anyway, just don't talk about them".

ATS is not "bombarding" adverts.

When logged out and ads are more numerous, an average of 4% of page space is devoted to ads. That's significantly less than many other websites.
