Here are the young men of the Calais migrant camp expressing their wish to better themselves. The smartphones, new jeans, nice warm jackets and entitled attitude all mark these young people as willing participants in the consumer game, exploiting the Earth's resources for a selfish burst of comfort. Future generations will have to take care of the environmental clean-up, living in true austerity, the easy pickings already taken.

These young men are supported by organisations such as Calais Migrant Solidarity.

Calais Migrant Solidarity say.

What is needed is anti-capitalist and anarchist solidarity, the overthrow of governments and the destruction of Europe’s borders.

I can't see how aiding the entry of what would become a steady flow of eager young fashionable capitalist consumers is going to bring about the anti-capitalist fantasy.

Unless the mass entry of tear gas acclimatised, police hating, stone throwing and well nourished young men is to help overwhelm the police in British street battles to come.

If anything, we see the re-establishment of borders with counties pulling the plug on Schengen.

The ant-capitalists don't care that these are migrants, n.but only that they will make trouble. However, all these young men clearly have a "take, take, take" mindset.

Yep, but I guess the French government in particular, is not very much interested in EU border and EU nations. They are interested in the borders of Libya. Together with the british and the italians.

They're people looking for work, for opportunity. If none of that's available, what then? In the US we have lots of tent cities for the homeless and transient population. There're thousand of homeless in every city. There's the same response from police and government: to smoke em out. Like to pass new ordinances to make pan handling or loitering or whatnot illegal for homeless in certain areas. There're lots of places where you'll find homeless sleeping, for example. They might make a mess. Some people complain. Businesses don't like them being nearby. They also don't like hte tent cities, since they don't normally follow all the rules.

I assume it's something like that, if these people aren't educated or don't have jobs. What else do you do? You're homeless.

Some of them are educated and I hope they find good jobs and aren't steroetyped as poor and dimwitted. Everybody needs a chance to prove the stereotype wrong. Even if it's true, everyone deserves a chance. But if the jobs arne't there or the money isn't there...

A large number of people in the US are in the US because their great grandparents immigrated here. And many of htem couldn't speak english. They were given a free pass because there were industrial jobs. It's not like everybody immigrating here was a genious. Just able bodied. This is why we have to be more understanding. We have to remember a very large population in thsi world is uneducated and doesn't have access to the modern standard of living. But they're every bit as capable. Success shouldn't be judged by where you're born.
