It is a real camera, possible multi gopro's.

Explain to me, how in the start he throws down the ski's and start moving right away in less than a second, that is imposible, he doesn't step on the bindings.

I believe it is physically possible to ski a certain distance on water, assuming one has built up the requisite speed before hand, and knows how to displace ones weight correctly in order to maintain momentum.

If one is water skiing for instance, where the rider is linked to a boat by a cord, and dragged behind the boat, then one may let go of the rope, and assuming a certain speed has been attained, continue to move across the water for a fair distance, before sinking into the water. It is feasible, not at all impossible.

It's not impossible, I do it with mine all the time. If you have decent bindings then it's quite easy. The speed is simply his ski poles; also not impossible.

An important thing to note is that in all of his videos he uses a lot of simple, yet effective, editing tricks. Whoever edits his videos is great with transitions, you can see great examples of it in another one of his videos (that precedes this one) at the very beginning.



Notice how there's no camera in the mirror (it's because it's two shots in one, the mirror itself is a greenscreen), the transition from the bird to the slopes, just a matter of editing. The more obvious edited points are the various continued shots throughout the video (as well as the one in the op), where the transition is noticeably off to represent a different shot all together. It's why I stated in the OP that some of the video is staged, but it's also very evident that many of it is candid.

The scene at the beginning that you're referring to, however, has no trick editing within it.

Very true. Water skiing at my cabin I can let go of the boat's pull and drift on to shore from a good 100 feet without any issues (and that's going slower than he was). The slowing effect you see from his speed and final grab of the helicopter at the end of the OP video's water scene depicts the physics perfectly.

I don't see any issues with that shot at all.

The reason it looks like he floats before the jump is because the gopro is attached to his head. When you spin like that your head goes first and the rest follows. Ski jumpers spin a good 90 degrees before launching sometimes.

Thanks for that video. Before today I never knew who Candide Thovex was, now I'll never forget. Inspirational. I was gutted when I learned of his accident, for him only to come back bigger and better. Unbelievable.

I was looking to see if I could find a video of his accident, when I found this instead. Apparently he helped save a girl from falling off a chairlift (he's the one in green)

I saw this video a while back and figured if you guys liked that you would appreciate this one.

Grouse Mountain in Vancouver, Canada
all the time! It's not that bad so long

right to the bottom of the trail where
we get picked up! (not in the dark tho!)

Not even close to the most ridiculous ski video. The accidental 300 foot cliff huck is way way crazier. #...any of the extreme ski and snowboard comp videos are more exciting to watch. This is just a staged and edited stunt video.

I was at speed coming down a mountain and there was a little rise which hid this nice patch of grass. It grabbed my skis like rubber. Perhaps it was too much wax on my skis or something, but that is what crossed my mind when I saw the grass. I grew up skiing and my friends brother was on the Olympic Ski team. They did some crazy stunts. I love the terrain and locale in your pics! Very nice.

There are places nearby where I see people Grass ski (and ROCK ski)
which is kinda nutty without wearing motorcycle leather in case you fall!
But that seems to be a summer thing. With Vancouver the city-local mountains
are only 3500 feet high so it can SOMETIMES rain on the mountains where
you get mud and rock in early or late season. That doesn't really stop the
diehards though! Just go in the backcountry on the other side of the
local mountains in the photos since there's more than 100,000 square miles
of heavy snow terrain.

To give you an idea of JUST HOW BIG the province (aka state)
of British Columbia really is here is a map overlying it on many
countries and states. In fact it 1.3x LARGER than Texas.
only Alaska is Larger!

This means there is a LOT of land mass for some SERIOUS
long-distance snowboarding, skiing, mountain biking,
fishing, camping, motorcycle riding, etc.

In terms of Vancouver itself It's a very NICE area to live in!

THREE ski mountains within a 30 minutes drive of work
Two have Night Skiing til 10 or 11 pm

I can sail, ski, bike or rollerblade the city
and the seawalls all within ONE DAY and
for a 90 minutes drive is the BIGGEST
Ski Resort in North America (Whistler Blackomb
-- aka the Mile High Mountains)
with more skiiable terrain than
ANYWHERE ELSE in North America.

I should note that from October to February,
Vancouver proper can get some wickedly
rainy periods (400 inches in a year some years!)
where it can be cloudy and rainy for 3 weeks
straight --- if you're a Sunshine-loving person
that might really bum you out!

While we are not hiring, if you have ANY
experience in 3D animation or Computer
Science you can pretty easily get a Job
here if you can get a work visa in Canada.
(you need 1 year technical certificate,
a 2 year diploma or a 4 year Degree
in order to get the work visa though!)

Love me some Candide. You should watch some of his vids. I'm actually surprised he's still able to walk, much less ski at the insane level he does. You should watch his crash that nearly ended his career.

Pretty cool, but seriously doubt it was all one long consecutive ride.

Also not sure you can just sky on grass like that, or at least not that much, and the dude likely practiced that route and routine more then a few times before getting it right and on video.

Also going over that helicopter with the blades still spinning that in itself was a stunt which had to be put in there after many many practice sessions on that particular spot first without helicopter then with and so on.

Though either way its pretty cool and impressive video and the guy is pretty dam good at skying.

Yes, many of the runs were staged (and it certainly was not one consecutive run). It's main purpose was for entertainment reasons, not to trick people into thinking that he really did all those things candid and legitimate.

You can indeed sky on grass like that
