I have experienced a few strange Arial phenomenon in my 32 years of life. Tonight i was lucky enough to experience another.

Herald , CA aprrox Tume 11:15 pm.

I have a friend over visiting from SF. He hardly gets to see the stars out that way because of light pollution. We decided to take a quick trip into town and get some candy , snacks , gas . etc ..

Town is maybe a 15 min drive max , into galt.
On the way home we were in conversation about how strange patches of fog were on the road, light fog about gorund level.

Anyway we get home and I was the first to get out , asked him if he ever saw stars like this in SF , his reply was " i don't ever look up, work and sleep, that's all i do". I laughed of course.

You see i just recently moved out to the country side from woodbridge ,CA. The stars in woodbridge are amazing at night , but out here its simply stunning.

He wanted to see the barn and horses so we headed that way , keep in mind my head at night time is always pointed up , have this habbit everytime its a clear night anywhere to look up! Until my neck gets crampy.

I am always hopeing to see something!

We were walking out of the barn when an orange glow caught my eye , dono howmany degrees off the horzion it was but it looked about on par with the cruzing altitude i see small planes flying at. It was headed from SE to NW is what it looked like.

I have been a dark sky watcher for many years and over the years i have developed an understanding of the sky and what flys in it. Save for this...

So I stopped and my first reaction was to observe any blinking lights. But the orange glow really set me off . it didn't look like any landing lights ive ever seen. And it was moving faster than a Chinese lantern.

Couldn't identify any blinking lights so at that point grabbed mu friends attention. I said " do you see that" of course he said " yeah its a plane " , I said " no yusuf somethings different about that". Right as i said that the object ( i thought it was my eyes ) started going blurry , It was actually the object! It started to get blurry! It was really strange then like a light switch turning off it vanished in a blurry haze..

I was floored!! I hit my friend and ask if hes saw what i saw . his reply " yeah the plane turned off it's lights " . I was like dude! Planes just don't turn off their lights! After waiting another ten min or so " for the lights to turn back on , we decided to call it a night.

Here i am almost 2hrs later , after having debated with him on this , still haven't found a solid explanation.

Dono what it was ... But i am glad i got to witness another strange anomaly in the dark sky.

Thought i would share it with you folks.

Looking forward to your thoughts.

Btw i did check mufon , no recent report's in my area .

Most people I have met, like your friend, simply spend little time gazing into the night sky. I have seen many things I can't explain. I enjoy spending time in areas with no light pollution and watching the heavens. Every now and then you see something strange...sometimes very strange.

For what it's worth.. I had my extremely detailed BTUFO sighting just down the road from you when I was living in the North Central Valley (I don't live there anymore).

There seem to be plenty of anomalous sightings not too far from that area. For example I talked to someone who saw a stationary, huge, in their face BTUFO not that far North of you, and others.

People always say "Oh, there are a lot of military bases" in that area.. which is true.. and there are a lot of McDonalds too, which I think is equal in significance. (correlation does not imply causation).

Just thought I'd mention that there are plenty of sightings.. I have no idea what you saw however.

I've lived most of my life not too far from your area. Less than 70 miles by road and probably like 50 miles SE as the crow flies. In the foothills at the edge of the Stanislaus National Forest, unobstructed by city lights and smog, the night sky scenery is usually quite clear and stunning. In my little county, the local folklore is full of stories of unexplained lights, crafts and other strange flying objects. I've had family, friends, teachers and countless others whom I trust and respect, all tell similar stories of triangular craft and/or lights behaving in a manner which defies physics as we understand them. I personally have twice witnessed a strange, bright bluish light, zig zagging thru the sky at impossible speeds. It flew from horizon to horizon almost instantly, stopped, changed course, and flew off, leaving a streak in the sky for a moment. Basically like a shooting star, except this shooting star changed directions multiple times and stopped, then flew off so fast it almost appeared to disappear into thin air! The first time I saw this was in the late 90s, just east of Oakdale, CA. The second time was about 2.5 years ago, on HWY 99, about an hour north of Sacramento. A few weeks after the first sighting, I had a couple friends claim they saw a black triangle, hovering motionless for several minutes, in this same area.
My dad had a sighting in the forest back in the early 80s. Said it was 7 lights in the shape of a "V". He couldn't tell if these lights were a single solid object, or multiple objects flying in perfect formation. The only thing he thought he knew for sure was these lights couldn't have been man made technology. They appeared to "skip" off the earths "atmosphere" like a rock skipped on a pond and the incredible speed and manner of movement ruled out any known manmade craft. (To my dads knowledge, at least. He grew up nextdoor to Kirtland AFB, so he has a decent idea of how conventional aircraft behave) Around this same time frame, my best friend of 32 years, claims he and his dad saw a huge fireball fly over his house in Sonora, CA. Strangely enough, they didn't think much of it at the time but now he is quite puzzled and mystified by it. There was a rash of these sort of sightings in my area in the early 80's and they continue to this day. Bill Birnes has dubbed the area of my hometown, Triangle Alley. His show, UFO Hunters, did an episode about this very area in 2009. Birnes points out that this area is about 250 miles from Area 51 (as the crow flies) which is simply a hop, skip and a jump away. Also, this area is remote, surrounded by the National Forest, Yosemite, the Emigrant Wilderness and is basically the middle of nowhere. A great place to test drive the latest secret tech, away from curious onlookers. Who cares if a few hillbillies see it, nobody will believe them, anyway.
There has definitely been something strange going on out here in "Triangle Alley" for over 30 years, I have no doubt whatsoever. Lately, there have been a ton of "mystery booms" out this way. Loud explosive like sounds. Kind of like a sonic boom, kind of like an underground explosion. I have no idea what it is but I do know that it has rattled and shook my house to the very foundation on several occasions. Many claim it is the munitions depot in Hawthorne disposing of obsolete munitions but I have my doubts. Whatever it is, it has many people in my area both baffled and intrigued. Perhaps we will never know but I will continue watching the sky with a child like curiousity and interest. Anyone interested in this local folklore can research Triangle Alley UFO, Mother Lode Mystery Booms, Sonora sightings among many others, and have lots of interesting things to look at.

Tuomp....those loud bangs ...the kids have discovered acetylene in a large trash bag in a 55 gallon drum.....kewl

Yes op....something different is out there lately......was a thread here a week ago''''

It was three blinks of a strobe at 41,000 MSL or higher...
shoulda been more blinks seen but three is all we got......one bright, one medium then a bright one. Different as can be from a regular type strobe at night....it was large diameter how weird....and a titch longer lasting in the on than a nav or tower strobe.
lasting about a tenth of a second, possibly a fourth of a second.
and it bothered my eye like as if it would do damage had it lasted longe...hey wait...did it blink like that cause it wants ya to look?

moving twice as fast as a sat. or aircraft....getting along it was....

anyway, I'm well seasoned at this stuff.....65 years old.....Never seen anything like that.....I've seen all the others....orbs cigar mother and a cute little one observing the Rocky Flats accident ,1958 over Denver when I was 6

Interesting, I had another odd experience last night, actually early this morning, very early. One of those sleepless nights, I was in central Wyoming, went outside after a bathroom break, it was quite cold, very clear, had to look up at the sky, it was stunning at that elevation. The moonlight was bright, you could see all of the snow capped mountains on the horizon, dark, and well lit. There was an inexplicable dark spot in the sky, almost like a shadow, I thought it was my eyes, it was an oval shape. Not moving, on the valley floor below you could see an enormous shadow from it, whatever it was. Then it just vanished in the blink of an eye. I wish I could have taken pics of it, but my camera is crap for night images.

I went back to bed, I tried to explain it away rationally, it didn't work, this experience and my last have left me will a creepy feeling, and honestly I hope I never have another.

Edit to add, in 51 years of life, this is the second of only two experiences.

I don't mean to imply that all these sightings in our area are the result of the government playing with experimental toys. While I'm certain that much of the reported "strangeness" is the result of black budget test flights, I just have this indescribable "feeling" that there is so much more going on around here. There are certain places in and around my county that just have this weird "vibe" or "energy". I used to think my friends and I got this "feeling" because these places were special to us, having made many cool memories there and whatnot. However, over the years, we've brought people from out of town and even out of the country to some of these places, and without leading them or prompting, they often remark on how they sense a strange energy or vibe. I've done a fair bit of traveling in my days and I've got this same sort of feeling around the Mt Shasta area and several different places in New Mexico. (The Land Of Enchantment is a very fitting nickname, imo) Now, I have no idea whether or not my feelings are the result of an over active imagination, the spirit of Native Americans who once roamed this land, the so called geo magnetic grid or any of the other assorted woo out there. But in my humble heart and feeble mind, the phenomena is very real. I cant describe the feeling properly but it is a feeling of excitement, anticipation, wonder, mixed with a bit of fear and awe. Like a million butterflies in your stomach, knowing that something mind blowing is right there, just beyond your perception. Besides being known as "Triangle Alley", my homeland is also known for its Bigfoot folklore. Its just a land of strangeness and someday I hope to make a thread on the subject. The Mother Lode. Gold Country. Triangle Alley. Bigfoot's stomping grounds. A mystical magical place to grow up. Now a wonderful place to grow old. I probably won't ever uncover any big secrets but I sure will enjoy living here and trying to make sense of it all.

I have no idea, solve. I can only assume it's extra terrestrial technology. I'm no physicist or aircraft expert but these things appeared to travel 1000 miles in a split second. It was unlike any technology or natural event ive ever known. I wish I had a better idea of what they are but sadly, I'm at a loss. The zig zaggers are what brought me to ATS several years ago. After years of lurking and finally signing up, I'm no closer to any answers. I will continue to listen, learn and look skyward in hope that someday, someone can SOLVE this mysterious riddle.

I've travelled from above the artic circle, down to near the cape and much of the middle, and the only "UFO" (They aren't aircraft) I've ever seen was in the Central Valley of CA.

I view that zigzag as an important clue as well and that also has nothing to do with "aircraft".

Is there any way we could twist your arm and get you to talk about this sighting? I'm extremely curious to hear your experience as well as your "take" on what it was, what it means, etc. As one of the most brilliant and fascinating members of ATS, i'm sure I'm not alone in wanting to hear more about your experience with the BTUFO. Hope this doesn't sound patronizing or arse kissing but as one of my absolute favorite posters here, i'm curious as hell to hear more. This question is to KPB, I accidentaly replied to the OP

I think that the phenomena is frequently or maybe always present in some areas.

Its just a matter of usually not being visible.

But for a certain type of person, just being told when and where to look might be all that's required to have a sighting; as the phenomena was already there.

Whoh! There friend. As far as I know, I'm one of the most loathed members of ATS. And I don't even posess a 4 year degree.

I have talked about my BTUFO sighting quite a bit...but people tend to ignore anything that I say about UFOs, because I and others don't believe in the current existence of ANY nuts and bolts UFOs.

But maybe I'll make a blog post on this for you. I'm not inclined to start posts on ATS.

Thanks for the kind words.

Here is a more detailed description and assumptions,

Good clear night sky, good view all around, object that looks like a star, zig zags across the sky, turning every three seconds,
acceleration-, slows down-, turn-, acceleration-, slows down-, turn. repeat.

Time to fly across the entire horizon, less than a minute.

Assumptions with no evidence.
Object seemed to fly with minimal fuel consumption.
Object seemed to be on "autopilot" and looked like it was navigating based on the zig-zag movement.

I know you said it was an assumption...fair enough...but "minimal fuel consumption"

That's assuming there is a craft with an engine (no reason to assume that But I'll let that go) But where did "minimal fuel consumption" come from in your brainstorming?

Hmm, that sounds a fair bit slower than the 2 zig zaggers I've seen. It's been awhile but from what I recall the entire event both times lasted less than 30 seconds. The first sighting in the late 90s, that thing traveled halfway across the horizon(in my field of view) almost instantly. I d compare it's speed to that of a shooting star. My second sighting, the light appeared to take a left turn and travel directly away from me toward the south. It kinda flared up and shot off, leaving a streak or trail for a split second. Both times the objects behaved like a pinball in a pinball machine, almost like it was bouncing around. If it was under intelligent control, the pilots are frigging crazy sobs. Those things change direction like a ping pong ball being slapped around by pro ping pong players lol
