The States or individuals...

Are you suggesting it be given away?

About 30% of Montana is Federal Land or Publicly owned land, whatever term you prefer.

In Alberta, the Provincial or Federal Crown land make up 60%.

So do you want a free-for-all? A land grab? The duly elected governments administer the public lands on behalf of the people. All the people. In small part to stop one person - usually one rancher or farmer - from just taking the public land for his own use, excluding all else.

"Lawless" is what the BLM is doing to ranchers and land owners. They want to drive people out so they can exploit their property to frack and mine and deforest… at will.

Funny how that hasn't been happening on the millions of acres these people constantly whine about the public owning, isn't it?
You can claim all kinds of cr*p, but anyone with half a brain can see that it's utter bs.

You should also know that the Koch Brothers supported Bundy too, but I guess you want to pretend that didn't happen right? It's a little inconvenient for your narrative, just like so many other inconvenient facts.

Why did they support him? Because this radical SovCit movement is working to get PUBLIC lands stolen from the American people and handed to PRIVATE interests like them.

People should remember, with dwindling resources available abroad and increasing resistance to "US Humanitarian aid" over seas, the vultures are coming home to roost more, and they're some greedy somabitches.

You're right on one point, the greedy "somabitches" are definitely all around us, and they call themselves Sovereign Citizens, Militia, Patriots etc, and they all think they deserve something for nothing at the expense of the American people, ignoring laws they don't like, threatening people, encouraging terrorism, preaching bs, using kids as Human shields, working with the Koch Brothers and politicians who want to ra*e and pillage your pristine public lands for profit.

I hope the US government locks up all these freaks for decades and makes it absolutely clear to all the other fanatical bullsh*tters out there that their conspiracy theories, their kangaroo courts, their pretend judges and their corporate scum backers will not win.

And Texas is less than 2%, some other States less than 1%... Why such a disparity?

The federal government is not very good at a LOT of things... And the few things they are good at are not good things ( wasting our tax dollars, blowing s*** up to name a couple)

The land should revert back to the States.

Clearly you guys are not going to convince the other you are right...

Here's a better question:

Putting aside the issue of is the federal government allowed to own this land, SHOULD they own it, or why do the NEED to own it (with exception for military bases, etc)? Why should the fed own 85% of Nevada?

Because the states allowed the federal government to purchase the land. So your question would be better if it asked:

"Why did the states allow the sale / transfer / of land to the federal government and for what reason was given?

Considering Nevada was used for nuke testing and black projects it makes some sense. Establishing national parks is a good reason as well.

If the feds did not control some of the land they do we would have massive development (commercial / residential / industrial) in areas that should be protected. A prime example is Gettysburg.

Assuming the states want the land back... If you were the Governor of Nevada would you want to assume responsibility for the nuke testing sites or the nuclear waste storage facilities?

What in the world makes you think the State will run anything better than the Feds?

On the Canadian side of the border, the Crown Land is pretty evenly split between Federal Crown Land and Provincial Crown Land. Trust me, the quality of government bureaucrat doesn't magically improve when stepping down a rung on the government ladder. (That goes for the County/M.D. as well)

Yet many states have a budget surplus compared to the massive federal deficit - there's one case where many states ARE doing it better... Letting the states run the land within their borders gives 50 chances to try and do it better.

The federal government wasn't intended to be as big as it is...

Show me a lucid government employee at any level (Federal, State, County), and I will show you a horse that can do your taxes and cook you breakfast.

Those ranchers... Always wanting $ million freebies from the government...

On a serious note, it's probably good that he's not being released. He's been violent before.

80% of the state of Nevada is federal land.

That happens when a large chunk is irradiated from nuclear testing. Secondly the State of Nevada approved the sale / transfer of land to the Federal government, which is required.
