www.bbc.co.uk...

Things look like they're heating up. If the MSM is telling us this, how bad have things really gotten? Of course I believe it's all the same side anyway.... Makes this even more interesting. Thoughts people?!?!

RAF Typhoons have been scrambled to intercept two Russian bombers heading towards UK airspace, the Ministry of Defence has said. The jets were dispatched from RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire on Wednesday afternoon following the security alert. An RAF spokesman said the situation was "on-going" and was not uncommon. "We have Typhoons up on a quick reaction alert," he said. The UK's airspace extends 12 miles from the UK coastline. The RAF has intercepted Russian military planes six times in the past 12 months. In November two Russian Tu-160 Blackjack bombers were escorted by Typhoon jets after being detected flying over the Atlantic. Andrew Brookes, a fellow at the Royal United Services Institute and former RAF pilot, said there was no reason why the planes should enter UK airspace and the incidents were signs of "Russia flexing its muscles". "They are not trying to provoke a war," he said. "It isn't a Cold War... they are just using these tactics to poke us in the chest."

Go read Chicken Little, then go read the "it's coming" threads from this particular section.

If I was a betting man, which I am, I'd say we'll all be just fine.

Reality sucks, right?

seems to happen once a month, russia buzz our airspace, we scramble jets and they leave.
wasn't long ago we found russian subs loitering.
i wonder how often we do the same but the media just ignores it?

If we did the same you know we'd hear about it via Russia Today so I don't think we enjoy trolling airspace like the Russians do

When the bombers enter our airspace that's when you can it has started

This happens about 40 or 50 times a year. It's only 'news' when the powers that be decide it's time to scare us all about Russia again.

Or when reporters are bored and then they make crap up about it to scare people even more.

The MSM in the West are certainly ramping up the rhetoric regarding the Russians and the threat they pose to the Baltic countries.

The BBC aired a programme called "Inside the war room" about two weeks ago, where the scenario was the Russian threat to Latvia. There were about ten former top civil servants who were asked to come up with a solution to the threat.

Then I was surfing through some channels on Saturday and CNN had a similar show, but they were calling for thousands of NATO troops to be deployed to the Baltics in an effort to stop the Russians from flexing their muscles on the border.

The last time the BBC did a similar show it related to a terrorist attack on London and what the response would be. Within months the 7/7 attacks happened and it was almost a carbon copy of what transpired in the fictional scenario.

Interesting times, and I am certain they want it to happen. I guess it's just a matter of time.

The Baltic nations themselves are practically begging for a NATO presence. That's why NATO has been flying security patrols and training with them the last few years.

If you dont mind me asking how old are you? This was a constant occurrence during the cold war.

I thought nato did air security for the baltics because those 3 nations did not have an airforce.

I'm sure they are, particularly after what has happened in the Ukraine. Let's see if the Putster will test the resolve of NATO, or whether it's just more fear mongering from the MSM.

Oh and by the way, in the BBC show, Russia fired an ICBM at London and everyone "Inside the war room" decided that it would be futile to use Trident.

Their air force is old and in seriously bad condition, where they have anything left. But NATO wouldn't be flying patrols without them asking.

They live people. I'm sure of it.

I know you can see, keep your head high and to the right.

We are not abandoned, we are trapped. But we will prevail.

You saw all those shows because NATO had just had an exercise where they could not defend the Baltic states from invasion with the forces currently in place. That of course gave the media something to talk about.

The UK is not placed next to russia, so for russia to send bombers into UK airspace they would have to cross a few scandinavian countries or germany and im pretty sure they would scramble their jets before the UK got involved and send them packing, besides we had no news of such a episode happening and it would have been all over the press if it did.

They fly Russian bombers into the UK ADIZ dozens of times a year. They bypass other countries as much as possible, but this is back to being a routine event and no big deal.
