In reality, the Democrats are moving further towards Socialism at a super fast pace.

Therefore, Democrats are moving further towards massive Authoritarianism.

Is your fence 1,400 miles long? Do you have 140,000 dogs to patrol it?

How about the Patriot Act, as Cowboy mentioned?

What about the Patriot Act ?

Look up Carters FISA ACT.

Then look up CLintons Omnibus Counter Terrorism Act.

Then look up the Obama's NDAA.

And while your at it.

The Federal Data Services Hub (Hub), a component of the health insurance exchanges created by Obamacare, connects seven different government agencies and establish new access points to the sensitive personal information of the American public.

The findings of this study seem about right, there does seem to be a more authoritarian "tone" to the right wing. Trump is basically a rich and famous BOSS, he and his supporters believe he will be able to use his authoritarian personality to " Make America Great Again ".

In comparison to Sander's supporter's that believe WE as a collective can address America's problems, it's really strange to me that Bernie supporters are often characterized as being "free loaders"...it seems to me that since his campaign is funded by the people, myself included, that we are putting our money where our mouth is.

The majority of people in America are sick and tired of being "extorted", and forced to pay taxes for war, debt, and bailing out criminals......I guess that's the one thing both Trump and Sanders supporters have in common, we want a President and Government that is not bought and paid for by special interests....I guess it all comes down to how people think we as a nation should spend our collective money ( taxes )...I would like to see that money invested back into America's infrastructure.

What could be more Authoritarian then the ridiculous "war on drugs" , bankrupting people with outrageous health care costs, throwing people in jail for "debt.", forcing people to have children and trying to control Mother Natures vast resources by a greedy few.

Yep. FATCA is the weapon they use to bully other countries into giving up info to the U.S. government about U.S. citizens either working there or having accounts there.

So basically we have one guy who JUST HAPPENS to be writing his dissertation on authoritarianism deciding Trump supporters are authoritarian. Do you think maybe he has his authoritarian glasses on, or is Politico simply being insulting?

I am NOT a Trump supporter.

The general workforce voter is not the same as a professional politician that passes laws.

My fence is big enough to protect the property I am responsible for. I wish the government would protect the property they are responsible for, you know instead of handing out free money and care to our invaders.

If you support Socialism - - how can you not be a Globalist?

No idea, I am neither.

I personally view the world as a whole - - but, that's a different discussion.

That is the crux of the problem, I believe American sovereignty is paramount and the freedom of its citizens is critical.

But, this is not about our individual political beliefs.

I don't necessarily disagree with "force" - - - its all in the details. Purpose, end result, corruption, "who and how", etc.

Socialism is primarily an economic system except in certain constitutional exceptions.

Support of authoritarianism is the definition of right-wing politics.

No offense, Annee, but based on your several thousand posts, you have been any and everything over the years, and have changed like a chameleon. Can't wait to see what you become as you enter your golden years!

I say this affectionately...really I do.

Building a 1,400 mile long wall was wasteful and highly ineffective.

I don't know. It makes for a nice public works project to stimulate the economy by reducing unemployment, and it's a pretty cool tourist attraction.

I'm kind of torn by all of this. I have a fence around my yard to keep my dogs in and intruders out, but I don't want to vote for Trump. Politics can be so confusing.

What about a wall ?

The current potus that LEFT WINGER has a WALL around his house.

If it's good enough for him it should be good enough on the southern border.

There's some more 'irony'.

The only place that isn't open border is the WHITE HOUSE!

Ok, Neo. Now you are just being absurd.

Have anything remotely intelligent to add, or are we going to play the teenage games all day?

Authoritarian is not right or left! It's the opposite of Libertarian. You can be left or right and be authoritarian. Arguing over which is which is really not relevant at all.

The Original Post certainly is about individual beliefs and how authoritarianism is prevalent on both sides.

Both the right and the left claim they cannot smell their own farts. They are both equally useless.

Teenage games it is.

You can't even address the questions asked without complete deflection.

Why is that? Can't stomach the idea that those you hold-up may be just as authoritarian?

Those are two wholly separate policy issues. Building a giant, useless wall does not stop the government from handing out the corn dole.

It would be all show and no go. Imagine the PR fiasco the first time someone manages to get around, through, under or over the Great Wall of Trump?
