Oh yeah.

It seems the only way to do that is to drag down the levels of "success" and mix it in with the levels of "failure".

That takes massive authoritarian policies doesn't it.

Work in an office where many of the people vote republican. They love authority, follow rules, followers. Claim to want small government but they are the biggest black and white, authorities are always that I've ever met in my life. The military doesn't do any wrong, cops are usually right, the people they elect never do any wrong, and we are to obey. they would vote Republican if Satan was the candidate. Followers. Liberals are often mixed some like authority and lot distrust more than Republicans.

I don't see that at all.

Of course not. People on either end of the spectrum never see the shortcomings of their own parties authoritarian dictates.

I was a 40 year Republican.

I am now un-affiliated.

Hate to break it to you.

Climate change is a POLITICAL AGENDA.

Science has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Feel free to Ignore we ALREADY have the EPA.

We ALREADY have green legislation, and have it for over 50 years now.

The GOVERNMENT has been in charge of it for that entire duration.

The issue is WHAT ?

Oh yea a pet child of the left so they can push MORE authoritarianism.

So they can rob from the rich, and give to the poor. So they can go out and buy more stuff.

That is authoritarianism too.

I guess you are the winner in this argument then. I guess it would have been better if China would have never built a wall, just pulled down their pants, and give it up to the enemy.

It would have been better to, as Sun Tzu cautioned, not engage in warfare at all but seek a political solution. If warfare was then unavoidable they should have destroyed the enemy completely when the opportunity best presented itself. The man knew what he was talking about.

Building a 1,400 mile long wall was wasteful and highly ineffective.

Yes they are. The U.S. is one of two countries in the world who forces expats to pay U.S. income taxes in addition to the income taxes they pay in the country they reside in. So they think twice before (temporarily or permanently) moving out o f the U.S.. That's authoritarian and a use of force.

So let me get this straight.

There wasn't anything authoritarian about CLintons 'assault weapons ban'.

Or the Brady Law that for the first time in American History FORCED every American in this country have to ask the States permission to practice their second amendment RIGHTS ?

That was under CLinton too.

Or the 'Affordable' Care Act that FORCE people to buy a corporate product. Healthcare.

Some people sure do need to look in the mirror.

What's strange here is that you keep arguing as if somebody is saying the left is the opposite of authoritarianism and the right has a lock on it.

It seems to is all that is happening is that somebody has pointed out that both sides have an authoritarian streak in them.

I did not say I agreed with how its done.

I actually support a "step system" - - but, that's another discussion.

To be honest, I feel that a great many Democrats aren't Democrats because they WANT to be Democrats. They just don't feel any sympathy or love from the Republicans. So that is the only place left for them.

Especially Democrat voters that are locked in tight into an endless loop of poverty.

What about Republicans trying to build a wall?

How about the Patriot Act, as Cowboy mentioned?

How about our military strategies and foreign policy in which people must comply, or face our wrath?

How about the Republican-created individual mandate that Obama enacted?

We could keep going back and forth. Fact is, the Right is just as much authoritarian as the Left, but it appears that an authoritarian approach appeals more to the voters on the Right, more so than that of the Left.

History has proven the exact opposite. The Great Wall of China for example.

Really? You need to brush up on your history. The wall was repeatedly overrun during the Song Dynasty by the Jurchens who even captured the entire Song royal family.

The Mongols were also able to ride though the wall as it had fallen into disrepair when Genghis Khan conquered China.

There is a reason people would build motes around castles. You have to have some form of security, the honor system simply doesn't work.

Moats are only effective on small scale efforts. A sieging army does not even have to ford them, the can starve the occupants into surrender.

There are instance after instance of large-scale fixed fortifications proving to be ineffective from the Classical period all the way up to the modern era.

/agree

Maginot Line anyone?

Fixed fortifications only slow, not stop.

That's why the LEFT ignores immigration law.

To make new Democrats.

Once a few years go by, and the lose that thrill up their leg.

Rinse, and Repeat.

where he is writing his dissertation about authoritarianism.

So it would appear this man would probably know what he is talking about. Also, it appears he has the polling data to back-up his claim. That info would be part of his dissertation.

I personally view the world as a whole - - but, that's a different discussion.

What about a wall ?

The current potus that LEFT WINGER has a WALL around his house.

If it's good enough for him it should be good enough on the southern border.

There's some more 'irony'.

The only place that isn't open border is the WHITE HOUSE!

Does your backyard have a fence? Mine does. It won't keep people out if they really want in, but it will give my dog time to line up a killshot as they come over the fence.

That is the crux of the problem, I believe American sovereignty is paramount and the freedom of its citizens is critical.
