Applause.

Of course authoritarianism grew. The entire American model is based upon it. Your fine country is inhabited by the great-grand children that invented the practical implementation of "If you don't like it, shoot it" and "Shoot first, than ask questions." That type of stuff. Authoritarianism at it's best: the right you claim to be somebody elses boss and if he does not like it, well *BANG*. Please remember: just 0.04 percent of the worlds population are Americans - yet Americans think they should be everybodies police force, have a say in everything and lead everyone. That is a very heavy burden America has put on its own shoulders. It requires the type of stiff upper lip that eventually tears your ass apart.

Which is what we see happening right now. And oh boy, the stench..

False Flags , propaganda and out right lies have been used to convince or at least justify America's "intervention" since WWI.....The War Hawks and military industrial complex has kept us in perpetual war and profited handsomely. Once that dirty work is done, a Central Bank is put in place. In the Middle East nothing has gotten better, in fact it's gotten much worse and it could in be argued that America's presence has killed many innocent people and escalated the conflict. I agreed with Ron Paul when he said we should get out and use our military to protect our own borders, period.

There are only 3 countries left in the world that don't have Central banks, Cuba, N.Korea and Iran..... God Help the people in those countries. God Help all of the people in the world if we don't stand up and say NO MORE !

Sorry, I strayed off topic.....but this is possibly the most important thing people need to understand before choosing our next POTUS. Whether you support Sander's or Trump, neither one is TPTB's choice and it's my greatest hope that an overwhelming voter turnout will make it CLEAR that Americans are taking out the TRASH !

So you believe Bernie's purpose is to help the Fed scam more interest on debt. ? Wow is right !

I don't disagree with you that completely free college might be too extreme an answer to the "circle jerk" as you call it. Since the 1980's college tuition has doubled for community colleges and tripled for Universities, in large part due to easy access to high interest student loans.

This is correct. I think President is a title that is too lowly and common for Trump. He should be inaugurated as God Emperor unless someone can think of an even more hyperbolic title for him.

We have heard the line repeated over and over again that the Left and their ideologies are authoritarian in nature

I am at a total loss of comprehension- I cannot imagine how anyone could have thought for a second that the Left side of political parties are more Authoritarian than the Right side. The findings here so NOT wierd or surprising.

Perhaps this idea might be applied in terms of extreme left ... like Communism? But that is expected because every extreme ends up going into it's opposite - but in the US, the whole of the population is so far right in general (as this article states) that even their left is right, for most other first world countries! The american left is far, far from Communism.

An Authoritarian personality is described in wiki as:

Authoritarian personality is a state of mind or attitude characterized by belief in absolute obedience or submission to one's own authority, as well as the administration of that belief through the oppression of one's subordinates. It usually applies to individuals who are known or viewed as having an authoritative, strict, or oppressive personality towards subordinates.

How in the heck can anyone see that in wanting to feed, aid, and house the lower classes? In wanting to give them better pay?
Wanting to allow individuals freedom of choice in marriage, and reproduction?

Yelling and screaming, "I'm going to bomb the hell out of them!" is like the epitome of authoritarian behavior; as are the stances of wanting to defend the freedom of the rich and powerful, condemn the poor and powerless as lazy or somehow without value or merit.

It seems obvious to me. But I'm not going to invest myself in this debate further than that one observation. The USA seems lately to be in that Season 6 stage where the writers have run out of ideas and the storyline and characters are going completely chaotic and senseless.... there's a moment to stop tuning in each week.

If I don't read anything else today, this sentence will do me just fine! Perfect.

I'm a newish poster (long time reader) so I'm not sure how off topic I can get and not have the post removed but I'm fairly certain this one should be okay. It has a point that relates to the thread, but I kinda take the long way to get there haha. Anyway enjoy!

I've watched this thread devolve and go off topic into the same old political arguements I've seen on here time and time again. I don't think I can take it any further off topic at this point, so I suppose I might as well throw in my two cents and maybe give everyone a chuckle and lighten the mood a little...

Repulicrat John Jackson says: "It's time for someone to stand up and say...I'm against those things that everybody hates! Johnson's policies go too far!"

Demilican Jack Johnson says: I am against those things that everybody hates and it's about time someone stood up and said it! Jackson's policy doesn't go too far enough!

Politicians are basically like clones when you get right down to it haha.

(Futurama fans get that reference lol)

Alot of people on this thread, but not all (I'm looking at you rational debaters, you know who you are lol), have gotten way too caught up in the arguement over Left vs. Right vs. Liberal vs. Whatever and who's party/canidate is more or less authoritarian...Do you guys not realize that ANY political party/politician can be authoritarian when it suits them to be so? That ANY political party/politician can be liberal?...When it suits them to be...Very few things are divided into black and white with a clearly defined line (Panda bears, piano keys and chess boards excluded) . Come on over to the grey area. I promise there's plenty of room for everyone (except you Chad...you can f**k off). In the end it's pretty moot to argue which party/canidate is better or worse because, let's be honest, they all suck in pretty well equal amounts because...well... they're politicians (except for your favorite your's REALLY sucks...hard). Notice that I said "argue about" NOT "debate about". That's more or less what alot of you are doing...argueing not debating.

Now that I'm pretty sure I have all you dipsh*t's attention, I'm going to need you to roll off your sister for a minute and read the next paragraph very slowly out loud. Take your time and sound it out and maybe... just maybe... this will get through that thick turd you're using for a head and you'll see things my way...your mom definitely came aroud.

Bashing someone, being patronizing, or acting condescending isn't the best way to swing anyone over to your way of thinking or to learn anything useful. As a matter of fact, those are probably the absolute worst things you could possibly do to try to change someones viewpoint. (If you've read this far you, hopefully, see what I did up there lol). If you read that previous paragraph without having at least a little kneejerk reaction then I'm not only suprised, but slightly dissapointed. How about we all agree to call these pissing contests a tie, drop the measuring tape, put away our willys, or...jillys?...(yeah, lets go with that lol), if you're of the fairer sex, and just get back to having a nice friendly discussion about the fairly interesting correlation the OP pointed out like he/she probably intended lol.

In my experience the Liberals use a paraphrase of "the Paragraph" as standard procedure. I have never seen any attempt to explain how a democratic socialist state is supposed to fix anything. All of the progressive "argument" is to assume it will work and any other opinion is fascist.

Yeah. I've seen more than my fair share of versions of that paragraph from certain kinds Liberals, myself lol. Stuff like that almost always comes from one extreme, and usually rude, end of the spectrum (left or right), though.
I'm sure you've seen plenty of attepts to explain how Democratic Socialism would fix something or other...just not from anyone that could convince you to change your stance. The reason could be because they went about it the wrong way and got your defences up haha. People tend to stand their ground more firmly when they feel they've been insulted or attacked some how, no matter what kind of footing they have. That also makes the other person that much more aggressive in trying to push their opinion and it just snowballs from there until neither person is willing to give an inch or concede a point.
I'm not saying that's what you did in that hypothetical arguement BTW. Maybe they really were full of sh*t lol. On the other hand, you have to consider the possibility that you're equally as full of sh*t lol. The most likely thing though, in my opinion, is that (hypothetically) you both had some good opinions and some sh***y opinions haha.
That's that grey area I was talking about. I've seen ideas that come from socialists/communists/republicans/democrats/liberals/ libertarians...you name it, that I think would have merit if applied correctly. I guess my point is that I don't understand why, for most people, it has to be an either/or scenario.
