A video shot from the 1960s has surfaced that shows bernie sanders being arrested for civil disobedience while in protest of school segregation in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood. His name also is shown in a news report from Chicago Tribune at the time.

The footage was taken from Kartemquin Film's '63 Boycott project, which chronicles the Chicago Public School Boycott of 1963, and was filmed by Kartemquin co-founder Jerry Temaner. The protest on Chicago's South Side took aim at racist education and housing policies being carried out in Englewood—namely the proposed contruction of a new school for black students made up of aluminum trailers known as “Willis Wagons,” named after the Chicago Public Schools Superintendent Benjamin Willis who first ordered them. These trailers were used by the city to deal with overcrowding in black schools thereby preventing integration of black students into less-densely populated white schools.

If the video has a problem getting imbedded, here is the link to the site.

If it is him, it shouldn't be a hit to his political career, he would of been doing the right thing, instead this would shine light on the way we see civil disobedience, and being on the right side in hindsight.

If the man really was arrested and charged for resisting arrest as a young man for protesting segregation, I think he's a better candidate than even Donald Trump.

What a great find!

I think the newspaper and picture comparison at the end of the video kind of makes it clear that it was him and it only raises this mans credibility!

Nice find...
....I wonder if his arrest was the defining moment he decided to get into politics?......

Maybe this video was released to help gain more support from black voters. Not a bad strategy in my opinion. It shows that Bernie just doesn't talk about racial inequality, but walks the walk. Actions speak louder than words. It surprises me that more African Americans support Hillary Clinton than Bernie. Maybe once this video gets around, it may cause Clinton to lose some support from African Americans.

I thought this was common knowledge. It's why I'm baffled that Hillary has been killing him with Black voters

Well I hope at least he gets his props and apology from Civil Rights great John Lewis, who, in his endorsement of her, tried to frame it like Bernie didn't do jack squat while Hillary was sacrificing everything to the cause.

If it is him, good for him. I'd like to think that if I lived back then, I would have been protesting such racist normalcy as segregation of public resources.

That era really tested the mettle of individuals, and those who were willing to publicly stand up against racism and segregation are absolute role models in my eyes.

ETA: It's too bad that his overall plan for this country doesn't align with my idea of freedom for all. And no, I don't want to get into that on this thread, I'm just saying that it's good that he seems like such a good guy and that I wish his politics were a bit different (and no, not over onto the conservative side).

I think Lewis "clarified" his comments, but I don't know if he even knows Bernie's history. Hopefully, he's done some research... why he supports Hillary I don't know...

Bernie Sanders, the Early Years Pictures

Above, 1963: Economic justice has been the central focus of Sanders’ 40-plus-year political career—as a young activist at the University of Chicago, though, Sanders agitated more for racial equality. In 1963 he was arrested during a demonstration protesting the city’s segregated schools. He also traveled to Washington—his first time in D.C.—to hear Martin Luther King speak at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.

SO what.
Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are said to be involved with the marches and they are the 2 biggest douche canoes out there.

Just means he marched and was arrested.

Doesn't remove the fact that he is a self proclaimed socialist and a life long Govt politician claiming to be the everyday guy.

I've met neither Mr Trump nor Mr Sanders so far, so yes.

Also for the record I don't think the presidency influences the laws that much

Either that or the current president is a seriously skilled conman

He is a great guy, too bad that your democratic leaders don't care about what YOU think, its all about how much they have paid Hilary, You guys know this. Your democratic party sounds like some Hitler move, maybe that why everyone calls her Hitlery.

If that is "everyone", consider rearranging your social circles.

There would be even less difference in the US between Clinton II and Sanders than between Dems and Reps.
Which is to say pretty much nothing.

But the guy who used to maybe be against the hand that now feeds him is just cuter to me just in case he has some return of the jedi spasm on the job.
They're all sellouts.
