Obama urges Russia to stop bombing 'moderate' rebels in Syria

TeU.S. President Barack Obama urged Russia on Sunday to stop bombing "moderate" rebels in Syria in support of its ally Bashar al-Assad, a campaign seen in the West as a major obstacle to latest efforts to end the war.xt

There are no moderate rebels in Syria expect for the Syrian Army and Kurds, when will the media and Obama stop using 'moderate' rebels when they dont even exist?

The 'moderate' rebels had being helping other Islamists in Syria and the 'moderate' rebels are backed by Saudis and Turkey how does that make them any moderate?

Christ the hypocrisy of this man has no bounds, he'll label protesters in his own country terrorists and terrorists in another country as moderate rebels, not to mention the mess in Syria is the result of his administrations meddling

How tepid can a US President be ?

He appears to be paying lipservice to something that is being played out on a bigger dining room table
than we could ever hope to sit at.

We are being served Pigeon while the elite dine on Pheasant.

I have a bad feeling for the minor players in this.

Hope I am wrong !

They're not moderate rebels their terrorists. If Saudi Arabia who prescribes to Sharia Law are coming to the defense of "moderate rebels" in Syria, you know they're terrorists.

"You're either with us or you're with the enemy".

One mans "moderate rebel" is another mans "terrorist"....plus Putins bombs can't differentiate between ISIS hardware and US hardware.

…bombs can't differentiate between ISIS hardware and US hardware.

Or the uniforms of the myriad of factions on the ground. They're all 'terrorists' as far as the Russians and Syrians are concerned.

Kurds.............-Under the bus.....gotta keep Turkey happy....
Assad..............Under the bus....gotta get that pipeline going....
ISIS.................Under the bus....it was always intended to destroy them after using them....plus getting rid of a whole pile of jihadists is good....
Moderate Rebels......Under the bus......except for a few token tame ones to take part in the new government.....and sign that pipeline deal!
The Saudis and the Iranis are left to snarl at each other.......

Oh you mean the Free Syrian Army whom are supported by Turkey and Saudi Arabia and committed more war crimes then Assad?

I will ask again.

When a Opposition is being supported by two regime states how does that make them moderate again? i had discussions like this on the guardian and so many people arent being fooled anymore.

Well with the fair exceptions of you that is.

Good to see some people are awake to the sort of the people they have in power in US.

Is there a difference after all we can't forget who was he, a Jordanian pilot? burned alive for noticing that the USA was dropping supplies to ISIS.

The sly thing going on apparently is that men like Murdoch are financing drilling for oil in Syria so naturally they want Assad gone in order to get a puppet in there and steal the Syrian people's oil revenue.

I would love to know how the American elite would like it if someone started up the idea that Obama must go and a foreign army was coming to back all those Americans who concur with that idea also.

The current foreign policies directed by Obama in the ME are deliberately going to cause war on a massive scale if they are not changed. Fine the USA is on the other side of the world, but there are enough 'moderate' Muslims in the USA to answer the call to jihad and kill a lot of innocent people and displace even more.

Its obvious by Obama's call that the russian help given to Assad is working well. Perhaps Obama will want more sanctions against Russia - I doubt China will like that very much.

So you're trying to say that there are zero moderate rebels in Syria?

That is an outright lie.

A ‘moderate’ opposition in culturally attuned terms does exist in Syria, we need only open our eyes to it. Only these groups – and certainly not Assad – will ensure the real extremists such as ISIL and Al-Qaeda eventually lose their grip on power in Syria.

Good response, no doubt you'll get many stars for that.

It's much like posting a video of a bad cop in America and proclaiming that all cops are the same as the one being shown.

Ok then, let's go higher up the echelons of power from a lowly Syrian actually in the conflict posting to youtube to the Former British Ambassador to Syria - Peter Ford

Ford’s argument is simple and persuasive. He says there are no democrats, or moderates, in Syria. ‘The only powerful forces ranged against the Syrian government are the extremist Islamists, ISIL and the like-minded.’

Bloody bungling over chaos in Syria shames Britain giving National Security Council plenty to talk about

Yes I know it's the daily fail but they're not going to make up quotes from someone who knows more about Syria than any of us on this forum knows

You'd think they would have learned their lesson in Libya with arming rebels who then turn out to be complete nutjob wacko extremists, but it seems like Libya never happened, totally forgotten about and never mentioned anymore despite being in utter chaos
